Re: Baseball Currency
Wanted to point out a great article that Jerry Spillman did on baseball currency. It was printed in the Beckett Vintage Collector magazine which was on sale April 2018 issue. You may view it here http://bcc.anaclubs.org/bbcur.htm I have been collecting these notes ever since I read the Bob Lemke article he did… -
Re: SkyMan says, "Two down, one to go". (Caution, many pix).
Glad you guys like the pieces. Thank you for your kind comments. << <i>...In the realm of "what ifs" you have to wonder that had Korolyev not died, that perhaps the USSR could have put the first man on the moon. >> If Korolev had not died there was a reasonable shot that the USSR could have beaten the US to send the first… -
Re: I've searched diligently for years, and this Shield 5c is only the second mint-state example that I'
IGWT, that's a nice example of what is indeed a very tough variety. The 1869 nickel with the Reverse of 1870 is rarely seen. I can't recall whether I ever owned one in MS. The reverse hubs are very easy to tell apart in this series, while the obverse hubs are not !! I have seen obverses (in gem MS condition) that I simply… -
Re: Detecting and dealing with PVC - An example
Eric, I would like to thank you for removing the PVC off my coin. You did an awesome job. The information you provided is very helpful. I don't have any other coins in my collection that have PVC on them, now that I go back and look, and that is probably why I didn't catch it. I will know from now on though. -Thanks Also,… -
Re: SBSS: Freedom Girl launched today
Yep, their website has a message about this: << <i>Sales Temporarily Suspended Until March 22, 2013. Due to the overwhelming demand for SBSS products and the inability of our vendors and suppliers to adequately meet the quantity and quality demands of our customers, our partner, Mulligan Mint has taken matters into its own… -
Re: VERY VERY VERY BAD situation at ANA!!!!
I couldn't agree more, a few things were disturbing at the show. Eating at a bourse table is a definite no-no , IMHO, and eating at one of only five Pub-Tables in the snack bar, while standing was very inconvenient especially when every square inch of table space was spoken for. This is the first large show i've attended,… -
Re: 2006 Topps Heritage Ideas - Please Help 1957 Topps Collectors!
Great ideas Jeff, that is certainly a great start. I will add a few things, just because not everyone may know this: Topps runs into a roadblock when it comes to Mantle. Sure today we think of the 52 Mantle and all the other great topps issues, but UD owns Mantle and all the likenesses of him. As sad as that may seem,… -
OLD SPORTING OBSERVATIONS
Meredith, Dallas Cowboys Quarterback once said: "Coach Tom Landry is such a perfectionist that if he was married to Raquel Welch, he would expect her to cook." Harry Neale, professional hockey coach: "Last year we couldn't win at home and we were losing on the road. My failure as a coach was that I couldn't think of… -
Re: Why do they say that gold is a hedge against deflation?

The money supply slowly increased from 1982 to 2000, almost uninterrupted... while gold languished and even fell in price. There was inflation, but it was not very visible; people didn't "feel" it, so they didn't put their money into gold. Something changed around 2000. After the (mild) 2001 recession, Greenspan cut rates…
