Re: New Mint Survey
I also received the letter yesterday and promptly took the online survey. It took less than 5 minutes to complete, and I did mention the need to improve quality control in terms of defects on the coins, but did not specifically mention milk spots. Milk spots have never been a problem for me. I guess I've been lucky so far,… -
1986 Proof 70 ASE to TPG or not to TPG?
If you had an absolutely pristine 1986 Proof ASE, would you send it in? It is still in the US Mint capsule. I did contact PCGS about 2 months ago, and they did say they accept them. I asked about milk spotting, and the customer service rep said she believed the1986 was not as likely to milk spot, but was not 100% certain… -
Re: JUNK Constitutional & .999 SILVER DEALER / FEE BAY price tracker
I had to spend the better part of yesterday dipping ASEs to rid them of the nasty toning and giving them the ole Weiman's wipe to remove all the ugly milk spots. I got spot -$0.50 and dumped 640 of them. I better get moving on the next batch. LoLZ. Thank god my gold doesn't have such problems. RGDS! -
Re: ASE Collection finished (BU)
<< <i>Russ knows all about this phenomenan and could throughly explain it. >> Well, I know what causes milk spotting on 1950 to 1964 proofs, but I'm not sure it's the same situation with the Silver Eagles. With the earlier date proof coins contaminants were sometimes left on the coin from the planchet rinsing process, and… -
Re: What coin auction terms make you immediately hit the back button?

And now, the truth: 1. I'm too lazy to take a picture of each set I have for sale. You wouldn't want to see a picture of the set I will send you anyway -- it is a milk-spotted POS!! 2. "Unopened proof set" -- I already looked at this and re-sealed it with glue-stick. You can be sure it has coins that are heavily… -
Re: Proof cam / dcam franklins...
You can still find Cameo Proof Franklin halves in OGP sets and as raw singles or sets in commercial holders. However, most OGP sets have been looked over many times for Cameos. If you find a Cameo half in an OGP, you are very lucky. If you find a Cameo half in a commercial holder, most of the time the coin will have flaws… -
Re: an interesting email that I just received!!
I for one, admire a person that has millions to spend on coins and still lives in a modest home/hood. Tell him you'll be visiting realtives Lakeland this Xmas and will drive the 10 miles to his home with only .25 mill in slabbed gold he can buy on the spot. Oh, and he should have the cash on hand since you'll be there… -
Re: rainbow toned proof franklins question
I collect proof Franklins and have some familiarity with them. Most proof Franklins are untoned, particularly the 1955-1963 coins since they were packaged in the cello flat packs which were and are very good for storage. Thee 1950-1955 proof Franklins that were packaged in the cardboard box, tissue paper and either brittle… -
I WILL NOT Be Buying Any More Silver Eagles
I have five proof 20th anniversary silver Eagles I just took out to look at and wouldn't you know it, milk spots appearing around the outside rim on all of them. Pathetic. Now these are pretty much worthless. I have a PR70 silver reverse proof and I will be keeping a sharp eye on that one. Once the milk spotting begins I… -
