Re: POLL: What anomoly bothers you the most?

<< <i>If done right finger prints can be quite attractive. For me it is spots whether they be carbon, Milk or other.... >> I don't know if I would go so far as to say that I think finger prints are "attractive"....but I am more ok with them (as long as they are not overly distracting) than the carbon or milk spots....they… -
Re: Does PCGS cross MS70s?
Don't know but I would leave them the way the are. Just be thankful they don't have milk spots. I sent some in PCGS 69's 2006 W's to try to get 70's and 4 of the 6 have since developed milk spots. I believe because of added exposure to air in the grading process. Leave well enough alone for ASE's JMHO. -
Re: Question regarding buying the 25th anniversary set for investment-should they be left sealed in the
<< <i>Doesn't the milkspot issue happen only after the coin is slabbed? That is why i remember an offer of a reward money on how to solve this problem? Or does it happen even if the coin is kept raw in a sealed us mint box? >> My understanding is that milk spots can occur on both raw coins and on slabbed coins. It's the… -
Re: Light Milky White haze on 76 Silver Mint Set - Will it Dip Off?

If it's a filmy haze it will come off readily. But there are also white "milk spots" found on these coins similar to those that afflict Peace dollars. If you have those, you're probably out of luck and overdipping trying to remove them will result in a flat lifeless coin... with milk spots. I believe (like with the Peace… -
Anacs or Ngc for Silver Eagle MS70?
PCGS will not grade silver eagles MS70 because they could in time milk spot. I can accept that. But who is better for long term storage on coins at either NGC or ANACS. Does one holder hold up better over time. Does one have a milk spot (or lack of) advantage over the other? Do you have experience with either? -
Re: ASE SPOTS
This is very interesting since most SAE's require a stabilizing rinse prior to slabbing to minimize the amount of Milk Spots that form over the years. I wonder how many 20th Anniversary Sets, both First Strike and non-First Strike will get ruined because of Milk Spots due to the fact that we could not see them before… -
Re: The apmex special on shipping..

<< <i> << <i>Their prices are still higher than their competitors (at least for what I buy). Thank you though tneig for the code! >> Would that be Eagles, Pandas or Maple Leafs? Or do you buy the less-common Austrian Philharmonics or African Elephant stuff? I'm curious because I'm a darksider and usually lean to the latter… -
Re: Teletrade Rewards
<< <i>I got a 64 Morgan than was bottom of th barrel. But that was not unexpected. I blame PCGS more than TT. I would not expect TT to selectively seek out hi-end coins for the program. >> But milk spots? Very disappointed with the program. Might as well have sent a raw no-name round. That's all a slabbed, common-date,… -
Re: Tulip Mania in the coin market

<< <i>do tulips get milk spots? >> No; but at the time, Tulips which were infected with the "tulip breaking virus" were even more desirable. Too bad ASEs infected with milk spots aren't more valuable. << <i>Seriously, I'd like to know what everyone thinks is a solid but not crazy price per set? >> I would also like to…
