Anacs or Ngc for Silver Eagle MS70?

fcloudfcloud Posts: 12,133 ✭✭✭✭
PCGS will not grade silver eagles MS70 because they could in time milk spot. I can accept that. But who is better for long term storage on coins at either NGC or ANACS. Does one holder hold up better over time. Does one have a milk spot (or lack of) advantage over the other? Do you have experience with either?

  • ANACS holders can be pulled apart with bare hands. You do the math.

  • I think milk spotting may be aggrevated more by the enviorment the coins are stored than the holder. IMO, the best way is to store them in vacum selaed intercept slab holders and then placed in air tight container with silica gel to store them in a low humidity micro-climate.

  • I have 29 ASEs in NCG holders and there are no milk spots yet.

I think they fixed that problem some time ago.

I would choose NGC hands down over ANACS.

    Yes, they did.

I would go with NGC for U.S. moderns.

I would just keep them raw.

The old ANACS were tight on moderns. Today? NGC all the way.

I had a 1882 CC morgan ms64 in a ANACS slab. Over 2-3 years after I bought it it started some goldish toning. So I sold it to a local coin dealer. This tells me perhaps their holders are not sealed well? At least the older ones. This was my only experience with ANACS.
    IMO #1 PCGS,#2 NGC and #3 ANACS.
    Love the 1885-CC Morgan
  • I keep mine in NGC slabs. They WILL grade MS70 coins and slab them.
That said, my MS collection of Silver Eagles is in a Dansco album with the corrosion inhibiting slip case.
They are still toning nicely. Go figure.
But my PF69DCAM Silver Eagles are in NGC. I've always sold any that graded 70 to support my coin habit.
