Re: What year were these (1770) Macniven & Camerons Pen Tokens made?
Most "false guinea" tokens date from the lifetime of George III (pre-1820), but these are much later in make. By 1850, card-counter makers were all making Cumberland Jacks, rather than false guineas. The company was founded in 1770 (hence the date, and anachronistic theme) but didn't adopt the "Macniven & Cameron" name… -
Re: Complete 1939 Proof Set – Requesting Opinions on Grades, Toning, and Value Impact

Thank you for taking the time to lay out your perspective — I appreciate the detail. I’ve been looking at some documented auction and CoinFacts examples from the same era, and I’m finding a few that appear to show similar blue-to-violet peripheral progression that were nevertheless straight-graded. In particular, the… -
Re: Your first Coin Album
Whitman Lincoln folder starting 1944 from my grandfather. Back in 1961 or 1962. I still have the folder today. It shows where I scotch taped the coins into place, preventing them from falling out.... What any 9 year old kid would have done! 😂 And yes, the elusive 55-S was a bear to find until a bought one for 25¢ or 30¢.… -
Re: Blatant OBW Scam
<< <i>As much as I would like to agree with this thread, Without real proof, its really just slander or actually libel. Just because a bank opened after the date of the rolls doesnt mean it didnt have them prior to opening. I would be careful posting some of these, posters could get sued.proof is required.... just an… -
Re: Satisfied e-bayer threatens to file complaint.Update;settlement reached.
<< <i>If you say that a coin has a shot at MS70 and it doesn't get it, are you obligated to give a refund? NO! >> I don't see how this is relevant because this is not the case being discussed. A more similar example would be if you said a coin had a shot at a PCGS MS70 and it's a coin that PCGS flat out doesn't grade. <<… -
Interesting case where Ebay got sued b/c someone left negative feedback on a buyer
Although this is not really numismatic related, I found this case interesting (a lot of people post threads about Ebay, so hopefully no one minds this post). The case is from this year, and basically a buyer sued Ebay for defamation becauase a seller posted negative comments about him on a particular transaction (I guess… -
1944 2 FR, Belgique shattered die?

I just wonder, would this fall under the “shattered die” category for world coins, in cuds on coins? There are 3 different cracks starting from the rim moving inward. If not what do you feel like it is? Unusual die cracks? I think this is so cool!! I want to send this to cuds if i can figure out how to lol Not sure why the… -
Re: Newp: Egyptian trio
I don't remember, but I think we used to call it "happy talk"? I'm satisfied enough with mercy replies or happy talk on my posts. I reckon it beats silence. Of course one always lives for those wonderful folks who give detailed, well-thought commentary, but these days, a lot of folks just use the "like" button. I welcome… -
Re: Guess the Altered Surfaces
<< <i>I have had coins come back with altered surfaces, I disagreed and resubmitted, next time it came back it was graded. What did i learn? >> That detecting altered surfaces is inexact. That while there are coins that that will always grade and coins that will never grade, there are also coins that will sometimes grade,… -
Re: Michigan State Numismatic convention Nov. 14-16
This was the third fall show in a row that wasn't on Black Friday weekend. This year was two weeks beforehand. I was under the impression that it was Black Friday weekend last year until I flipped through the pages of a Greysheet issue I got literally the day before the show. I didn't go because I took my mother to get a…
