Re: Thinking about purchasing my first one ounce gold coin.

If you really want to stick with the 1 oz. bullion coins then the list Trozau made is it. But, I can tell you from personal experience that after you have looked at bullion, then all the other world gold coins start looking interesting too and it becomes a never-ending list of really cool coins. Becky's list is a great way… -

Re: Dealers and raw coins
Commerce is a two-way street as is grading. There is a reason reputable grading services stand behind their grading. Most of the collectors on this and other coin boards can grade many of the raw coins put up with images within reasonable limits. The sharper ones can spot problems a mile away. The question is what are the… -
Re: Another Doily slips under the radar?
Gents . . . Posted in the other thread in much more detail, but I am now regretting the fact I actually had a life and was off the computer for 9 days. I could have been here and had some real fun with the Doily collecting, bashing, defending, and (ahem) self-promoting. I apparently lost out on a couple of Doilies that… -
Re: Clipped flowing hair half dollar?
I've never seen a Flowing Hair half dollar with a clip. I have my doubts if there ever were any. The reason I say that is that these coins were carefully weighed before they left the mint. Planchets that were too heavy had the excess metal filed off therefore creating adjustment marks. Planchets that were too light almost… -

Well this certainly has never happened to me before!!!
I'm in California and I stop by at a local bank that knows I'm a collector. I ask if they have any halves or old dollar rolls and they promptly responded with a $20 roll of Kennedy's and two rolls of IKEs. I paid with Jefferson dollars and quickly surveyed the Kennedy's. Nothing! I wait to get home to check out the IKEs… -

Re: Nice NGC cross

<< <i>So I guess I'll need to get some of my older slabbed NGC coins re-holdered. Then they will appear freshly graded and I can sell for more. >> The serial numbers remain the same on NGC slabs, even after they put the coins in the new holders. For those of us who know that, the one's which are graded looser are easy to… -
"Hurricane Helene relief sale" Pre-'33 Gold.
Helene hit us, and a lot of other regions in the southeast, like a ton of bricks, I can't even being to imagine what WNC is going thru. Our community is in shambles and the power company lost power to 100% of customers and just now (Wednesday night 10/2) there's about 50% still without power as I type with lots of folks…
