Re: Do people who collect TPG plastic really care about the quality of the coin inside??
I've been putting together a type set of coins in the old PCGS rattler style holders for the past few years. Although finances dictate otherwise I am still plugging along finding some tough coins. However, I have definitely passed on what are some ugly or spotted coins in rattlers. Seeing a coin in hand is well worth it.… -
Re: Come share any picture!

Wow, that is a cool little S/W 9 mili I love the work you do with the designs , I was also looking quite a few pages back at your knives , being you mentioned them in your post and i haven't been on for a while , that is really some incredible work . I really like the uniform , I think it was from 1904 if I can remember… -
Re: Final Yellowstone NP Quarter Mintages

I ordered 15 boxes of 2 rolls and 15 boxes of the 100 coin bags of the Yellowstone. Opened 4 boxes and was so pizzed at the poor quality I boxed everything back up and sent them back. I didn't expect GEMS but I was lucky if any were 63. This was the most pathetic bunch of Mint crap I have seen in my 10 years of ordering… -
Re: 1950 proof sets - how many would constitute a "Hoard"?
The coins in that set are all PR-65 or better. None of them have any claims to Cameo status although the reverese of the half is a doubled die for what that is worth. I paid what would be considered a retail price for it at the time from a bid-wall auction in Boston. Having been though one run of the mill 1950 Proof set… -
Re: There's a thief on the Forum---has anyone else ever had this problem?? We've reached a resolution, i

well i will admit I was another who contacted keets... this whole thing went sour...dont know why or how, but its over and I feel nappy i still cannot escape the feeling we drove a poor little collector outta the business for no reason at all. Im the type that can spot those thiefs a mile away...louie doesnt fit the… -
Re: 2018 official Boston Red Sox thread
Only caught a couple of innings of the game...had to go to a "street party" at our Pavillion, which was nice, but the date was not the best, given the Masters is only about 75 miles from me and we have some avid golfers here, that had to attend the event. I think next year, the committee will select a date nowhere near… -
Re: Question about selling unopen mint boxes
<< <i>IMO the big problem is if you get coins from the mint delivered to your home, but sell unopened boxes using a PO box or store address. An unscrupulous buyer would then be in possession of a collectors address. I'm unaware of any known cases of this is happening, but I'd hate to be the first. >> Don't they ALREADY… -
Re: Have/would you buy a coin net graded for cleaning?
The unspoken truth has already been stated--that PCGS and NGC holder certain coins and net them out. This is more common for tough dates than common dates. The term is "market acceptable." Estimates vary on the percentage of coins that have had "a light dip." For early silver type, anything white may have been given a… -
Re: Slab Protective Sleeves?
Do you remember the sleeves of some type of shrinking plastic you could put on easter eggs? It slipped on the egg, and then just a little heat shrunk it tight. In my old trade in the bindery biz we had a shrink wrapper, which just had a roll of half folded plastic, and then a nichrome wire on an angle flipper that sealed… -
Re: motel buyers in the area

$10k a week to go around as a buyer?! I'll TAKE IT!! I'm unemployed! What do I have to put out up-front to get in on that or as part of my travels? Here's a question related to this thread...... I'm a very small-time collector filling holes in Whitman blue folders. I just received about a 1/2-dozen Morgan & Peace $1's from…
