Re: Bad experience at A-Coin in Jacksonville, Florida....
Only in America ... I just spent the better part of 45 minutes reading this whole thread times the number of posters ... with the man hours wasted on here because somebody got their nose out of joint because they were snubbed in a retail store we could have done something constructive like find a cure for milkspots or… -
Re: Can coins tone in slabs?

The slabs aren't quite airtight... it takes a while for gases to seap in, but I do remember seeing a studying using Intercept Shield holders of some sort, and a simulation of aging over 20 years, and a comparison of what coins turned in the holders... A coin is more likely to turn in the holder because of a dip that didn't… -
Re: milk spots
<< <i>I'm no expert in this field, but it is mostly a problem with silver coins. It is caused by the minting process and will only show up over time, I do not know if it can be avoided. >> There also seems to be some correlation between humidity and temp control as to the occurance and amount of milkspotting (at least in… -
Re: Premiums for Silver Eagles
<< <i>Try buying a 1996 silver eagle in bu. You will pay at least 50.00. They dont even have a w mint mark. They just have a low mintage, relative to the other dates. And who knows how many were returned to the mint and melted. They did not sell well that year. >> ...and its even harder to find a 1996 without milkspots.… -
Re: New title: Coins continue to tone in slabs (right?) need a sealer?

<< <i> << <i>Even sealed, coins can "outgas". Existing impurities already on the coin or inside the holder can continue to affect the surface of the coin. Smoething to think about there. >> Yea I hear ya, but after having an ASE spot on me, not taking any chances with my pricier proofs. >> Milkspotting didn't seem to be… -
Re: Unopened 20th Anniversary ASE Sets: True or False? ...
<< <i> << <i>PCGS does not give out MS70 grades to SAEs any longer. >> Anyone know why this is true? Does this mean that a PCGS MS69 and a NGC MS70 are pretty much the same coin or does it mean that there are MS70s among the coins PCGS graded MS69? >> Some ASEs will develop milkspotting when placed in TPG holders (and… -
Re: Got lots of grades today!!!
Only a couple more orders with AHs at PCGS, for about the past month they have all been going to NGC. Let see 2 1/2 months vs. under one month (and $6 a coin less to grade!). BTW, they are a lot harder to make in a CAM then you might think, between hairlines and milkspots they are tough. I just happened on a nice run of… -

Re: What do you Franklin people think of this half?
Russ I would pass on the doctored photo one. I don't want to discourage the offer made by BigDave, but I would look at a few 63 proof sets and try to make the coin, unless it has to be 68 or 69 DCAM. I have a 66CAM that looks great IMO. You can get a spotless CAM relatively easily. Oh, ... I have yet to successfully dip a… -
