Re: American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin w mint mark mintage
<< what do milk spots do to a coins value? do they drop it down a grade, two grades or essentially make it uncollectible? >> Well, if you submit a coin with milk spots, they will drop it a point or even two depending upon the severity of the spotting. Eye appeals has everything to do with grade. If you submit a spot… -
Re: Some words of caution to help avoid possible spotting on your ASE's
<< <<I called NGC about one of my Proof 20th ann. in a 70 holder that has some spots. They are going to replace, buy, or conserve it so im happy. I am also selling off all my silver eagles, i am not gonna chance it rather just cash in now while i can >> Can you choose the option between the three? If they replace it,… -
Re: I wonder if the mint will send out rejected ASE sets?
<< Are they "defective" or merely mint "errors"? Maybe we should see re-evaluate the situation ... Hmm - Proof does not mean perfect these days.. and First Strike means early submission. >> To me, the ones I sent back were defective. Re: Help grading proofs! Franklins and Washingtons
GMC, Click here for some information on grading proof coinage. On that '63 half, I'm not convinced that's milk-spotting. It may be water spots. The difference is that milk spotting happens at the mint and is embedded in the planchet, so it can't be removed. That amount of spotting, though, will kill the grade on the coin.… -
Re: Catching up: ASEs and white spots
<< I opened and acetone bathed my 25th Anniversary set. It was worth it to me. Doubly so since my Reverse Proof came back graded 70. Nice to know it won't turn on me. >> I've collected these since 1986 on their release day. While going through my "stash" around 2003-2004, I noticed that everu stinkin one of the 1993… -
Re: Will this proof Morgan break 100K on Heritage? Update *she broke 100K*
<< " This puppy has been dipped." I see no evidence that it has been dipped. Actually, It might look better if dipped, but it may just be their poor quality pics. >> Check out the area behind Ms. Liberty's head and the area to the left above the eagle's head on the reverse. There are small white patches where the… -
Re: Has anyone found any 2009 DDR's in bank rolls?

<< I have a theory about the milk spots....... if the Philly Mint washes the coin planchets in Philly water, there's your culprit!! My grandparents used to live in Philly, and the water back then tasted horrible!! Add to whatever's in there all the chemicals to kill them and mask the taste/odor, and it's a wonder the… -
Re: Questions for John Mercanti and Ed Moy?
<< Ask them how ASE are processed before and after they are struck; that is, are they washed in some solution? Basically, I would be interested to know if they have any idea why some ASE's milk spot so badly. They might not know enough about the production of the coins to offer an intelligent answer but I would be…
