Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Ebay came out with their ebay bucks offer at the right time! Man the Barber Half's rolled out the door on ebay yesterday! Coast to Coast evidently came up with close to a set of Barber Half's as well as several other new listings from other dealers. Some of the coins were actually pretty nice as Coast to Coast coins go. I… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
I'll make 1 comment before I take a vacation from this thread. Credit should be given where credit is due. Most of the contested coins being pictured are from the Srotag collection. Mike Hayes was the Mentor, Coach, and purchasing agent for the majority of the coins. I sold Mike quite a few of them. My 1901-S XF40 Quarter… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Not the best pictures but the start of a little proof set I'm wanting to put together with Barber 10c, 25c, 50c and Seated 10c, 25c, 50c, $1. Have my eyes on a nice looking seated quarter PR64 at a live auction tomorrow so hopefully will check off both quarters. I feel similar to @BarberFanatic 's post above. I absolutely… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Tim, thanks for your comment regarding my 40 year anniversary with the ANA. Hard to believe it has been that long. My grandfather who collected coins died in June, 1977. I then applied for membership in December, 1977. Funny, the main reasons why I wanted to join was to 1) honor my grandfather and 2) continue his run of… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
I need a little help from my friends. U recently picked up a nice '99 S 50C NGC 58: The coin has a nice hint of golden toning around the perimeter, but the a big golden dot on the reverse. The spot on the reverse bothers me a bit, but otherwise it's a great coin. I want to get it in a PCGS holder; I see two options: 1.… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Welcome, "TheTruthHurts".... And I amoungst many others appreciate your interperation of the reason for Die Doubling. Very interesting. Jeff...thanks, and, I agree, I also wish they would include Ty 1 & Ty 2's ...but in the Barber Quarter with varieties. Edit to add: Received the latest CAC submission results: 1911 V… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
I am clearly needing to do something with this coin as it bothers me: I value your opinions: (1) Try for a CAC Gold sticker... this is certainly at least an XF40 to PCGS, right? well they graded it VF30. (2) Reconsideration service... purchased raw in 2015, this coin was sent in for grading in May 2017 so it has that era's… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
The Barber Quarter / Barber Half rarity discussion prompted me to review high end AU's "tagged" by CAC. What was interesting (to me) that there are no CAC AU58 Quarters of the following dates: 1897-S, 1899!, 1901-S, 1911-D & 1913-S. Now, as far as I'm concerned, there are many terrific coins that are not stickered by CAC.… -

@JeffMTampa said: "The reason I say "sort of" upgraded is my other '93 S has a far right mm... I'm treating both mm positions as part of the set even though our hosts don't recognize the two mm positions for '93 to '95. The also don't recognize the '92 Type 1 & 2 Reverse- I do." Was just thinking here... Jeff is onto… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Jeff! No one has figured out the rhyme or reason for the + grade! At least I haven't! Wouldn't surprise me if you sent others in that you don't think will plus end up getting the + grade. Some of mine did! I have 20 in now. Liz thinks 6 have a shot. I think I will be lucky if I get 1! I also think if PCGS thinks upon…
