Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Jeff.... I would vote for the top picture of your 1911 Halves. I think the # 1 image should be in a 58+ holder. Also, I never knew Acetone would remove Lacquer from coins; I've never dipped a coin, let alone use acetone or other cleaners. But, the net results of removing Lacquer off that Proof Nickel is flat out amazing.… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Both of those 96-O's have what I consider way too big hacks in the primal focus area of the coin to ever warrant a 58! I see the 1st 1 as a 53 and the 2nd as a 55 simply because of the wonderful toning. I can't believe I had started making financial arrangements to go after those 2 without enlarging the pictures! I loved… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Well Part III is off to a great start! Great coins and pics here on Page 1. That 09o is a treat to view every time. Also, gotta say that although its tough to get a great look from those pics, the Dansco album full of dimes looks UNREAL! Labelman, amazing 92 btw. Here's a relatively new addition to my set that I don't… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
I am with Jeff, my '06-O's are either lower VF or an AU58 like I show below. The XF45 level I never see, is pop'd due to resubmissions, or is long-held in tightly held collections (like the '01-O Barber Half in AU58, right Jeff? @JeffMTampa... there are none CAC'd and 8 in the AU58 pop for PCGS). 1906-O PC20 CAC: Another… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Here is another newp. This 1894-O Barber Quarter may have some slight repunching seen in the '94' of the date South. This is a PCGS XF45 specimen with centered O Low. Once in hand, I will be comparing it to my existing ctr-O-low specimen also PC45. Here is Coin #1 Here is my other one in PC45 taken with my camera. I notice… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Jeff! You are really getting Macro with these Barbers. Time for you to identify all the dies and write a VAM type guide for Barber Halves so I will have more varieties to collect! :# I'm actually contemplating getting a Micro O! I have the other 4 in 58 although only 1 is attributed on the holder. It's time for you to take… -

Originally posted by: amwldcoin Verne, I don't think any 58 Barber 1/2 is worth near 20K except a micro O! And no not all 58's are the same! Anyone know how much Don's 04-S in 58 sold for or if it's still available. He paid somewhere in the 20K range for it. Time will tell! Darrell, et al: All of the Surf City Coins that… -

NTT- "The Sidewinder Sleeps tonight" by REM. I know a few. My latest round of submissions to PCGS is in the mail; hopefully I'll have a few new photos to post tomorrow. My Barber Half Everyman set now has 1 coin missing; a 1909. I have a NGC AU 58 that I was going to submit at FUN for crossover, but I bought a nice 1909 at… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
<< <i>Thanks for the link, FadeToBlack. I posted my thoughts ... Not a bad find, eh ? Edit: I have no doubts that the coin is genuine. The positioning of the One's ( 1 ) in the date match up. The cast counterfeit look, as Fade mentioned, has to be Enviornmental Damage. Yes, it's very porous. Still a high VF detailed coin… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
I picked up a 1887 Liberty Nickel in a NGC AU 58 holder for my Everyman's set last week. I cracked it out of the slab and intend to submit it raw: Other than the misaligned obverse die this coin has several cool things going on. On the Obverse the"1" in the date has been re-punched: The Reverse Die has basically shattered;…
