Re: Are there really a lot of counterfeit 1950 D Jeffersons out there?
They were worth a lot more in the 1960's during the roll craze. At the time, someone started striking a quantity of fakes using false dies. Also, some folks would take 1959-D nickels and would shave the tail off the last 9 to create an 0. These weren't too convincing since the 0 was too small but they fooled a few people. -
Re: Authenticating 1909-S VDB pennies
Usually counterfeit 1909-S VDB cents are either struck from false dies or they take common genuine 1909 VDB cents and attach an S mintmark using glue or solder. I've never heard of taking a genuine 1909-S which is a relatively expensive coin and adding a near microscopic "V.D.B." which would seem to be a very difficult… -
Re: So was the wisconsin error quarter heavily counterfitted?
Due to the fact that the extra leaves on the Wisconsin quarters are RAISED above the surface of the coin, it would be virtually impossible to create a counterfeit of the varieties from a genuine coin. The only way would be to create them from false dies or molds, which given the high grades of virtually all examples (AU or… -
Where did PCGS get there false info on the Chopped Trade Dollar?
<<<Many Chinese/Eastern merchants would take a tiny chunk of profit from each trade by "chopping" out a piece of silver from the Trade dollar.>>> This is completly false & misleading! Nothing was chopped out or removed from the coin. The chop is actually a character that is struck into the coin with a punch. This needs to… -

Re: 09SVDB 100% Success, both listings PULLED! Happy New Year!!
@MsMorrisine I think I know who the former member you are talking about is and may try to reach out to them for more info. Information I have now would suggest more than one reverse die was used but I am unable to confirm that at this time and don't want to give out false information. My additional research on the reverse… -
Re: Cud on this 1874 $1 gold?
The coin is real. I have a slabbed version with the same issues. While the die is deteriorated, so was the hub used to make the die. Some 1874's have just the L in LIBERTY showing in the headband while others have no letters showing in the headband. There are counterfeits produced from false dies made from authentic coins… -
Re: Palmeiro returns today. Wonder what the reaction will be.
Way to drag politics into it pandrews...too bad you didn't come up with that on your own and stole it from the dan patrick show on espn radio. I'd rather have a president who lied about sex with an intern than a president who lied about leading us into a war on false pretenses for his buddies' oil interests. When Clinton… -
Re: OT: Rick Reilly's latest article

I must've missed the part where FDR brought the country into war with false claims of the Nazis having WMDs. I guess when in doubt, compare W's crusade to World War II? Jesus, talk about incoherent rambling. Rosie the friggin Riveter?? ROFLMAO By the way, would you be happier if 1,000 more troops died in this war? Sounds… -
Rotated double strike
I posted pics of this several months ago and some thought itreal. Well I took it to the April Santa Clara show and had ANACS look at it for authentication. He told me it was a false die. I asked how he could tell and he said it didn't look right but gave no details. Now my question is, why bother. Even if real it wouldn't…
