Re: Another peace newp
So in the same 10 day span I bought this coin and the awesome 1921 purple toner from KComics and a couple other peace dollars, and THIS is the coin I cant take my eyes off of. The more I study it the more intrigued I am by the idea of PL peace dollars. I have now gotten this thing in several different lights and the best… -
Re: How do I submit my 2021 Morgans to PCGS in a flip?
FYI: A flip won't cause milk spots. From what I've read, they seem to be caused be incomplete rinsing during the blank preparation. Over time environmental conditions can cause these to appear. If the coin was subjected to the conditions to form milk spots, it will probably happen some point. The milk spots in your example… -
Re: Do current mint released 90% silver coins get milkspots?
<< <i>Almost never see a milk spot on anything but silver eagles and almost all milk spots are in PCGS holders. --Jerry >> --------------------------------------------------------------------- Completely false statement. Milk spots are on all Eagles , any holder, 2x2 or raw. I don't mean on every single coin but they have… -
Re: What do you folks think about the 230th year Marine Corp commem.?
<< <i>2 words to predict this commems future ... ...milk spots. Until the Mint can figure out what causes milk spotting on modern silver, spots are possibly in all of their futures. Which is really too bad because there have been some real nice designs and themes. >> Please don't obsess too much over milk spots. Form what… -
Re: SAE's and philosophical dilemma
I think your choice of the word "mold" has confused a few respondants to your post. I have a SAE registry set (PCGS MS69) and 8 out of the 20 (1986-2005) have developed milk spots. My understanding is that the Milk Spots, (not mold as you described it), is IN the metal, not just the surface. No amount of dipping or… -

Re: 2010 ASE Proof - 3 of 10 with Milkspots
<< <i>Milk spots are actually the rinse that has dried on the planchet before striking. When the ASE is struck, the area of the dried spot is then pressed into the coin. It is part of the coin and can't be removed. JMHO. scott >> Absolutely .... You are wasting your time using Acetone in the above example, however, "milky… -
Re: What’s the best product to clean ugly toning off bullion coins?
The milk spots were already there, my guess is you didn't notice due to the toning. The Weimans certainly didn't create them. Wrights silver cream will get rid of milk spots but now we are talking about wiping and not just a simple dip. I've purchased hundreds of heavily milk spotted maples over the years and made them all… -
Re: Recent visits to Virginia City and Sutter's Mill (Coloma, CA)

I visited the area back in June, during my first visit to the United States. First of all, Virginia is very touristic. A little too touristic for my taste, but for families its a cool town. During my visit we (me and another forum member) had planned to be in town for about 2 hours. At the coin shop, we already stayed 2… -
