CSNS show report
I left home early Tuesday morning for the long drive to the CSNS show in Schaumburg, Illinois. I left a day early this year because I wanted to do a little sightseeing. After a stop for gas and for lunch at Fazoli's, I arrived in Urbana, Illinois in late afternoon. I checked into my hotel and then went to dinner at Cracker… -
1909 Matte Proof cents Die 1 and Die 2 "notice the difference"

Notice that Die 2 obverse and reverse have better striking detail than Die 1. Notice that Die 2 has no die lines along/above the nose. No line off the back of Lincoln's jacket moving up towards the "R" in Liberty like the 1909 Matte Proof Die 1 and the 1909 VDB Matte Proof have. Die 2 has its own "set of obverse die line… -
1836 2 1/2 gold. How do you guys grade it. UPDATED

I have always liked these coins, but almost everyone I see, this one included, seem overgraded or worked on to me. This coin appears reasonably original with a decent circ look and minimal distractions. I believe this coin to be a McCloskey-B, head of 1834 block 8. The holder is cracked, scratched and about to be destroyed… -

Re: 1974S type 1 and type 2 mintmarks???
At this point I don't know. The only thing I do know is: 1. I have seen 14 1974S proof coins after discovering the difference. 5 were type 1, 9 were type 2. 2. I have been through 4 rolls of 1974S business strike cents. Three were large date, one was small date. All mintmarks were type 2. At this point it's looking like… -
Leopold "The Hogmouth" 2 Taler Set

I recently had a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to get my hands on three desired Austrian Leopold "The Hogmouth" 2 Taler varieties, in high grades. I was able to trade up lower grade pieces, while supplementing my growing collection with missing types. I feel fulfilled: Austria Leopold I (1657-1705) The Hogmouth 2 Taler… -

ANA ELECTION UPDATE - 2/8/2007 (Updated 2/11/2007)
In news regarding the 2007 ANA elections, it looks like the field of candidates for the governor seats is getting crowded. Looks to be one of the most contested ANA elections ever (unless someone here can correct me on this.) Here is the list of the candidates (as of 02/08/2007): NEWCOMERS Michael Doran - Illinois Donald…
