One of the local churches will be hosting its 36th annual card show Saturday, February 4, at the West Valley Inn in West Warwick, RI. This show is the only annual show in Rhode Island and RI's largest show.
Doors open at 8:30AM, and the show runs until 4:00PM. The address is 4 Blossom Street, West Warwick, RI 02893 Google Map
There are usually around 120 tables, with Alan "Mr. Mint" Rosen making an annual appearance.
You can read more about the show in this local newspaper article Link to Article
I will be set up in the middle of the room with vintage sets from all sports, as well as a few other odds and ends. Most of the material at the show is vintage singles, but there are several dealers who deal in other material such as autographs, wax, publications, etc.
If anyone has any questions about the show, please contact me.

Below is a scan of a newspaper article from last year before the show with a profile of my store and a picture of me and the man at the church who organizes the show:

Will see you there as always !!
always some very nice vintage raw and graded stuff.
And yes it is worth the trip--even though Mr Mint is there.
<< <i>I'll be there. I haven't really been to many card shows. How do dealers feel about trading? I have 2 bgs 9 bowman chrome rookies that I was going to put on eBay but figured it hey would be easy to move at a card show in NE the day befor the super bowl. I don't think I would bother trying to sell it there because I doubt any dealer woul pay what they are selling for on eBay. I could be way off... But my thought is that I could get closer to mkt value in a trade since the card should sell pretty easily. I was just wondering what proper ediquite is? Are most dealers annoyed with trade offers? I'm not some buffone who over values my things either... For common items I just accept whatever completed auctions have gone for on eBay. I figure that is best way to determine mkt value. >>
PM sent.
Buffoons
just so we're clear on the matter.
<< <i>I never did get there
It was decent, it depends what you were looking for. If you were willing to stand and thumb through the bargain bins, there were deals to be had. In modern stuff, someone I know found a Julio Jones Auto/Jersey /25 for $6.
<< <i>I'd be looking for vintage. >>
There was plenty of vintage to be had as well.
Cranston Herald Article
Just out of curiosity were people spending money or just looking? Did ya sell any of the Hartlands?
I don't go to shows - I went to a TRISTAR in Houston many years ago - and found many of the sellers - raw included - to be expensive.
And last - let's "out" the family!
<< <i>Hi Mike
Just out of curiosity were people spending money or just looking? Did ya sell any of the Hartlands? >>
I have to say, this show was sort of a rebound from a collector standpoint. For the past few years, most of the money changing hands seemed to be between dealers, but this year more collectors were spending money. Modern stuff did not move nearly as well as in years past, there seemed to be renewed interest in vintage.
I sold some of the Hartlands, I still have some left.
Forgot to ask - I would imagine many take more than 1.
<< <i>How much does a table go for?
Forgot to ask - I would imagine many take more than 1. >>
Tables were $65 per this year; they have gone up $5 every year lately, so it is more expensive than it used to be, but it is still worth it.

Met a few board members which was nice
Sold some cards for decent prices.
Overall a good time.
Got 1981, 1982, and 1983 Topps, and 1984, 1985 Donruss. I only busted the 1985 and I got a very nice condition Eric Davis. I realize it's junk know, but just the smell of the pack was worth the $2.00
Here were the pulls from the packs.
went to the show as usual for the 21st year in a row. Not a bad show. Picked up a nice '78 Boston GLobe Red Sox set that is very tough to find. Need 2 cards for my Yaz MAster Set. Also some unopened new FB wax to bust later today watching the game(a 21 year tradition). Finally, got a cool Gronkowski cleat signed and in a display case. Awesome piece for $200 !! Very happy with my 2 purchases.
Met Mattinly and California cards and also--not sure--topps70 ??--at Tony C's table.
Only bad thing was a show regular who smells like a combination of old garbage and a dead body -- not even kidding. Guy cleared out 4 tables each direction when he stopped at a table. He is about 6'8" and wieghs in at about 350. Wow--does he stink
Tony C--hope you sold the '70 Trans-a-Grams. Tough items!
See you next year!

I went and had a good time. Always is great to talk to old friends, many I only see once a year at this show. I didn't get a chance to meet Tony C (saw him everywhere around the show, but not at his table when I walked by LOL), Barry and Mattingly Mint (were busy filling wantlists when I walked by, looked like 1976 Topps baseball), but Flatfoot, you walked right by me with that large box, can't remember if Gronkowski or cleats were on side of box, and I thought that must be a cool purchase. I would have stopped you had I known it was you, LOL.
Overall a good show, good turnout it looked. I only spent $20, buying two Providence College basketball guides from the early 70's. Was disappointed in the lack of vintage wax boxes, only saw an '81 Topps baseball box. Not too much vintage wax packs, some cellos, and a couple of racks. Laughed at the guy selling '89 Fleer and Bowman wax boxes at $35 each!! Seemed like there was more new shiny stuff than in previous years. Not really the type of show for this stuff. My wife noticed more kids walking around than in the past, a good sign for the hobby's future, let's hope.
Flatfoot isn't kidding about the big smelly guy. As soon as my wife and I walked in show we knew he was there. And he was in the upper part of the show, well away from main entrance!
Maybe I will meet you guys there next year.
<< <i>felt good about helping a young gentleman sell his partial 1956 set to a CT. dealer I know..... >>
Ha! That was me!!! Thanks again for directing me to him. Got a tad less than I had hoped, but his offer was far above what a few other dealers told me I could expect to get, so I took it. I guess I had more cards in there than I realized. I thought I only had like 90 or so cards, but he counted 120, so good for me I guess!
I hope he does well with them.
Oh and the big guy that didn't smell too good was not a plant
