Re: Photographing coins is what you want it to be
Perfect sense. You really don't need to turn the coin you can always learn photoshop. Than you can do virtually anything you want. I'm sure I'm not going to tell you anything you don't already know but I think it's worth mentioning. Some people manipulate their coin pics. "juice" em, so to speak. To me this is a travesty.… -
Re: Toning on SAEs that I kind of like

Good question Bochi... the next task for the 'doctors'... develop the toning process that eliminates milk spots (aren't milk spots a type of toning?)... wow.. a fortune to be made - 'Send me your spotted, milky coins - be they slabbed or original. I will heal them.' I can see it now.. another niche market. Cheers, RickO -
Re: Speaking of Toning.............

<< <i>So, could the problem with the milky areas on Peace dollars be considered parallel to the problems with the ASE's? It appears it COULD be, as we havent seen that milky pattern (or milk spots) since the Peace dollar....and there are TONS of nice Peace dollars that DO have those milky areas (or am I just way off base,… -
Re: Okay, so may I place doctor behind my name now ? Check out my ASEs
<< <i>Where's the mild spots? or are they considered AD (artificially damaged) by the TPG's . I've never seen a milk spotted ASE that wasn't in a slab. >> I agree with you. I just submitted a sealed box of 20th ASE's and not a single one came back in with milkspots. The 12 remaining ones that I had from my submission when… -
Re: OK-a question for the REAL experts!
<< <i>guess there are numerous types of milk spots. When I use the term, I am referring to those whose source is the Mint. I'm no expert by a long shot, but when I use the term "milk spot" I also think of this. Had a proof Washington with milk in the date area. Dipped it in EZEST, 50/50 mix--didn't even put a dent in the… -
Usually I Can Spot The Scam A Mile Away !!!
Morning, But this one has me confused, or is somebody really this stupid. Picked up a couple of 1981 Football Racks in the last group rip and when I saw that jsweiton got a rack from the box with Montana on the back, decided to cut my losses and just get rid of them before I got tempted even though I knew the Montana had… -
Re: The Shot Heard Round The World....Milkspots On SAE's....

<< <i>A solution of Hydrochloric Acid could be used to eliminate the milk spots as it would dissolve the Bismuth Oxide and not affect the silver. I would have to play around with this but I no longer have a lab that could perform the tests. I don't know what the ASE's would look like once this was done. But, that would be… -
Re: Has anyone seen milkspots on NGC graded ASE's?
I have had milk spots form on SAE's that were never removed from the airtites they were shipped in from the mint. Pulled out a couple of 96's to have graded and was shocked to see the milky residue that was forming on one of them. I gave it a quick dip and rinsed in water then alcohol before sending it in. Came back a 67.… -
Re: What is your opinion on the modern graded bullion game?
. I think he means that he "removed" the milk spots (from his holdings) by selling off the afflicted coins. Milk spots are a micro etching of the surface. The silver surface inside a milk spot has a slightly rougher texture than outside the milk spot. As such, no amount of "dipping" will smooth the metal surface back out… -
Re: Some ASE toners just back from Newport Beach.
Some of it can be "milk spots" that sit just underneath the surface. May not be the full milk spot noticeable on an untoned coin, but I have noticed this on a few toned SAEs and that it what I attribute it to. The ones I have seen, full on milk spots don't tone (at least, naturally and unassisted) very well, if at all. I…
