Welcome to the "Classic Gold Collectors Club!"
The 1838-C half eagle is hardest piece in the set to find nice. I looked at many of them until I found the one that worked for me. The 1838-C was not as well made as the 1838-D, which can be found in AU for a price.
My 1837 half eagle is in a PCGS MS-61 holder, and I am quite happy with it. I traced it back using the Newman Portal site to the 1976 ANA auction, which was held by Stacks' in New York City. There it was graded AU, which is the true true grade. Coin grades are quite fluid, as you probably know.
You might know that we are collecting "Mint Drops." That was name the opponents of Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren gave to them on some Hard Times tokens.

Re: 1915-D Buffalo - What do you grade it?

We all know that all Mahomes touchdowns are worth 18 points. This game is far from over. (View Post)2 -
Re: Will this coin CAC? FUN Show Coin #1 **RESULT POSTED**
The angle shot makes the coin look different. I would never try to grade a coin from a Trueview photo because those pictures often make the coin look the best it can be. I don’t know about the Great … (View Post)1 -
Re: The Kansas City Chiefs are setting themselves up for a major collapse this upcoming season.
If Kansas City goes way ahead early, the Puppy Bowl would be more entertaining. I don’t want to watch 25 reruns of Taylor Swift jumping up and down and kissing her future mother in law. Reruns of “Gi… (View Post)2 -
Re: Under 30, you're a coin collector, what would you like to see more, and maybe less of in this hobby?
I had the, “You can’t afford that,’ line dropped on me when I was in my 20s. As it turned out he was right. His prices were so high that I could find the same thing elsewhere for less, and I really c… (View Post)8
