I don't know if this is the most dramatic, but it is pretty dramatic...
and if we're going to split the Lincolns into Wheats and Memorials (and eventually I assume zincolns, life of Lincolns, Union shield etc.) I'd say this one should be pretty high up for Memorials... although if I was just going to go for one variety for the whole Lincoln series I would agree with 1955 DDO,
Quick question: Do you all distiguish between a "Variety" and an "Error"?
I have alwasy considered a Variety to be an intentional design change/choice (such as rays/no rays, or the placement of leaves on a reverse, etc). And an Error is an accidental occurrence (such as 55 DD, die cracks, 42/41, etc).
I think DDO's and RPD's and such are varieties where errors would be stuff like broadstruck and off centers and such. In other words anything that is on the die is a variety. And anything that happens when struck is an error.
I like the 1844-0 doubled date half dollar as well.
In the seated quarters the 1854-0 Huge O is pretty weird. The mint mark is larger than the Large O's on the half dollars. It always looked like a potato to me. Are there any other hand-carved mint marks from the 1800's or 1900's?

I wish you were right but it is only unfortunately a clash in the end and that doesn't make sense as the most dramatic variety, seriously though I wish it were because I got me some amazing clashes. Edited to add: hey I woul dlike to be mistaken, can someone prove me wrong once and for all regarding clashing >>
I agree that this is the most dramatic for the FE cent because it is clashed with a liberty seated half dollar. That is what makes it so neat. I have one of these that I nearly sold a while ago on ebay-I learned of this die clash while my auction was going on, so I stopped the auction and kept it.

Actually the FE obverse is clashed with a $20 Liberty obverse. There's another variety where the reverse is clashed with either a quarter or half dollar reverse.
My vote for the MOST DRAMATIC variety in the Capped Bust Half Dollar series in the 1824/various dates. This example has darker toning on the reverse than on the obverse.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
One of my favorites for “most dramatic” is the 1872 Dime DDR with about 175 degrees rotation between impressions.

Well for the Washington Quarters the 1943-P FS-103 has the most dramatic obverse doubling, but the 1942-P FS-801 DDR has the most dramatic reverse doubling. Here is my Trueview and and a close up of the doubling.

<< <i>For the Buffalo Nickel, I would have to say that the 1916 DDO is the most dramatic variety. >>
Since no one else has posted one yet, here's my humble example.

Yes, it's a $20 clash and I would vote that as the most dramatic variety of the series too!

I believe it's still the only known variety for the series.
I like to see the 1882 o/s Early die states or the 1900 o/cc morgans
2012 thread with inaccessible pictures. Sure would have been courteous to start a new thread.
