Well, the new Complete Dime set...is "NOT" Complete!!!!!

DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭
The new Complete Dime Complete Variety Set that I have been waiting for 2 years for IS NOT COMPLETE!!!!!!!!!!!

You would think that a Complete Complete set would be all of the series Complete variety sets all rolled together.

WRONG!!!!

The first series, the Bust, is not the Complete set that has all the JR numbers BUT is just the major variety set.

I have tried talking to BJ, which is usually a pleasure and positive, but in this case I can not seem to get thru to her what "COMPLETE" really is!!

Hope someone from PCGS sees this. I could eat a box of rocks!!!!!!!!

I WANTED COMPLETE.........not ..........almost complete!!!!! image What is so hard to understand about complete?????????

Am I right or wrong.

if this is in reference to the post made about that like 644 or so dime variety set,

i agree. after reading that post i thought it would be all dime varieties in the entire pcgs grading catalog.

after briefly viewing the list i was under the impression it would be totally comprehensive

quite a shock to read this post

Unless there is a separate super-ultra complete set designation, I think you are correct.

Maybe it would help if those that agree would email BJ and state so.

Complete is a WORD. I doubt that you can ever have a complete set of coins INCLUDING every known variety. The reason is that there may be a variety out there that the "experts" have not yet anointed as a "true variety in the series. In fact, each collector can think of himself as an "expert" in the series he collects and decide if a given coin is a true variety, at least in his mind. Here, the decisions are left to the PCGS people. If they were left to each of us I believe we could create hundreds of new varieties every year. I guess that is why I only collect major varieties in the Lincoln cent series. JMHO. Steveimage

Steve - You are correct in your case.

I'm talking about varieties that are "IN" the Bust Dime Complete variety set and are annointed by PCGS

    BUT

Are not in the Complete Complete Dime Set!

Just so that I can help in the most positive way - Dictionary.com Definition of Complete

All of the different dime sets should be rolled into one in order to create the COMPLETE DIME SET. Why someone wants to try and mess with the definition of complete is beyond me. It does not mean 71%, 74%, 77%, 83% or anything else arbitrary like that. It means 100%!

Of all the possible things that need to be argued or can be argued, I am surprised that the definition of the word COMPLETE needs to be debated here.

Do you have a link to the complete bust dime set with all the JR numbers, I'm having a hard time it. Everything I've looked at - Capped bust dimes with major varieties, Capped bust series complete set, and the complete set with all varieties has the same composition for the capped bust dimes.

Have you looked at any other series to see how those complete sets are handled, it may be that the set you're looking for would be an exception to the way such sets are typically constructed.

Here is a link to the Complete Early Dimes by JR number, which is what I want them to use.

Ah, thanks. My guess is that they build the "complete" sets from the major set categories, not the specialty categories. I'm leaving the office but it may be beneficial to check another denomination or two and see if that is the standard operating procedure, or if the dime set was compiled differently. If it was SOP, you may have to push for a specialty complete set - and you might be the only person crazy enough to attempt it image

Why are you letting PCGS's construction of their registry dictate what you collect and how you enjoy the hobby? If you want to collect every die marriage and die state, do it without having to have a TPG's validation of the contents of your collection or becoming lithophagous. Do you have an official explanation of why the set was constructed the way it was? Is there a JRCS consultant that works with PCGS that could clarify or facilitate this? Saying "I WANTED xyz !!!!!!" is usually not the way to get it.

They used the COMPLETE MERCURY DIME SET with all of the crazy varieties...and all of the others series for that matter. Why they are doing this is beyond me. It makes no sense.

seanq - The "specialty" sets are used for all the other series of the dimes.....thus....making it COMPLETE in all cases except the Early Dimes.

Messydesk - I want the Complete Set on the Registry so I can show what I have got like all the other sets.

There is ONE participant so far. The set is 1% complete or so and the person has the NUMBER 1 RANKING.

I sure would like to see PCGS fix this mockery of the word "complete" so that DIMEMAN will participate and display all of his amazing toys in one magnificent set. My fingers are crossed. Come on PCGS, please fix this!

Meanwhile, could you make a Showcase set of your complete complete set and accomplish the same thing, albeit non-competitively?
  • DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭
I do have a Showcase set for the varieties that PCGS doesn't attribute.

But they attribute all the Early Dimes by JR number, which is the set composition that should have been used to make this Complete Dime Set!!

I have given up on the Registry doing a "complete set" hence my "Showcase Set" image

What the heck. I added my coins; even though, I will never complete this set. It looks like fun anyway.
