<< <i>Can anyone give me a general feel for what the show is like? Number of dealers, fresh material, etc.? It's a tossup between Albany NY and Parsippany NJ this weekend but a new and different show is enticing. >>
Well according to John the events person there will be 61 tables. I have been every year now for 4 years.
It's a once a year show, well known here. Some of the old timers just come out once a year for this show.
Last year an old man who was splitting a table [with a member I know] had a beautiful PCGS 1926 sesqi two and a half gold piece for so cheap I almost fainted. His material only sees the light of day once a year. Then there are the regulars who hit every show every month. The dealers are from various places including NYC, MA, NH, and Maine.
It's kind of a family show with a clean atmosphere. It is put on by the coin club, Mansfield Numismatic Society. This is very close to UCONN and Eastern CT Univ. So the area has money. And that means choice stuff.
I am not going to say anything about Albany or Parsippany and don't want to steer anyone away from those shows. So it's a free country.
The MNS club is also known for its paper money collectors. There are some very knowledgeable members regarding bank notes.
(shhhhh don't tell Gov. Malloy)
