Another nice Bust Dime arrived! --> BIG UPDATE!!!

image
image

I know a lot of you were really, and some of you REALLY, were looking forward to this being a new Bust Dime die marriage, not to mention a new Curl Base 2 die marriage,
but that is what made this SUCH a good April Fools joke. A couple of you figured out that I was playing around within a few hours of me posting this thread, and I'm really
pleased it didn't catch on. It was difficult to slow-play this for several days. I had to make up A LOT of white lies to keep this thread believeable. I hope this joke doesn't
bite me in the butt as the "boy who cried wolf", if I were to ever discover a new die marriage!

I did have some photoshop work done on the date. The date is actually the same as the PCGS-35 I used to own with a couple marks added to disguise it. I won't reveal who assisted
me with the photoshopping, and I will let that board member reveal him/herself is he/she so wishes. Unfortunately the date wasn't a perfect match to the JR-10, but there
wasn't much that could have been done there. Realone caught on to this fairly quickly and got into a "frothy-frenzy" about it being a "New Die Marriage". The obverse I chose
was a JR-7, which IMO is the closest matching obverse die to the JR-10, with only very minor discrepencies in star alignments. I chose the same reverse die as the 1829 JR-10,
and that is the 1830 JR-2. I was quite fortunate to find two coins in similar grade with similar color/toning.

And Realone, I drew in that "black line" from Liberty's chin to Bust to further disguise this as an 1829 JR-10 die marriage. You caught on though and didn't buy it, so I had to
quickly make up another lie! image

I am wishing you all a VERY JOYOUS April Fools Day image

1829 JR-7 PCGS-63 1830 JR-2 NGC-63 (same reverse as 1829 JR-10 Curl Base 2)

Once again, the Post Office guy dropped off the tan slip yesterday and so I had to pick it up this morning! image

Nevertheless I'm super stoked this arrived. image

Bought this late last week and I've been very eager for it to arrive. This is now the finest known for the scarce variety!!!
I took some quick pics of the piece a moment ago. Nothing great, but I'm headed out again.

Enjoy image

Please Winston.....PLEASE, I HOPE YOU KEEP THIS ONE!

Edit: Granted, I couldn't really blame you if you sold it or auctioned it off though.

Thanks guys. image I really appreciate the comments!

PCGS previously listed in their Pop Reports an "AU-53" example.
Years and years went by without ANYONE seeing or hearing of its
existence. When I found the (PCGS) VF-35 almost exactly 2 years
    ago that seemed to re-invigorate the search for this die marriage;
with an added interest in trying to figure out whether the AU-53
really did exist or not. With enough convincing, PCGS removed
that coin from their pop reports as a listing error. And so that
VF-35 was the new Top Pop.

Fast forward to today, while I will not claim that this is THAT AU-53
example, I think it comes very close to that grade.

And don't worry, I do plan on keeping this one image

Everything I see lines up with the JR-10. What do you see differently?

Congrats Winston on a stellar pickup.

Just about everything is wrong on the obverse. The "9" in relation to the hair curl is off, the stars are in the wrong location. Im still working on what this die might be.

Yep. I will try to do an overlay when I get home this afternoon to show you the difference on the obverse.
I'll also weigh it and carefully conduct a ring test.

While unusual, it may not be super unusual considering the recent discovery of the 1827 JR-14, the new die marriage with the Flat Top 1 (Pop 2)!

Well, other than the entire obverse being wrong, what do you see wrong with it? imageimage

Upon closer examination, I see star 6 is pointing towards the haircurl instead of pointing towards star 7.

Haha. So I've got some information on weight, ring test, and just my impression of it.

    Weight: 2.6g (fluttering to 2.7g)
(sorry my scale only rounds to the nearest 0.1)

    Ring: sounds like silver

    Impression:
Dentils and edge reeding are undisturbed
There's a hair-thin "scratch from between the nose and lip and runs between stars 3 and 4
There's a bit of lusted under the mottled purple toning, with glimmers of bluish-rose.
