Is this toned Peace Dollar worth a premium?

tydyetydye Posts: 3,894 ✭✭✭
To be upfront I would like to sell this Peace dollar but toning is one aspect of numismatics I never quite grasped. I do not want to undersell it nor look like a fool asking for the moon. Minus the toning it is a $75 piece - NGC MS64. So what should I have my wife list it for?

IMHO, not really, or a small one at most. But send the photo to Larry Shapiro he is an expert on toned Peace Dollars.

My wild guess would be that, on a really good day for you as a seller, could go for as much as $120-130, but on a "regular" day, maybe just over $100. Again, just guesses per what I've seen some eBay auctions close at, and a few toned Peaces I've seen for sale on dealer sites. But with toning, there is always a wide range! image If you are listing on eBay, just start at 1 cent and make sure you have the proper keywords in the title, and the market will come through for you. Best of luck, it's a neat looking Peace! image
  • If listing it on Ebay just list it as an auction, not a BIN. Start it at $9.99 and let it ride for 7 days.

  • I'd be willing to pay $175 for it. If interested please email me at jcbcoin@gmail.com
  • Worth a premium yes...I could see it sell in the $150 range pretty easily especially with a better picture that brings out the obverse color. You have dead spots where no light is showing on the obverse so it you get more even lighting and show the color across the entire obverse you'll get more money.

What he said! I just did a little bit of post-processing through PhotoShop (I only do levels) and it looks great but you could definitely use more light in there...

Thanks for the help with pricing and photography. Looks like I got a good deal on her. I think I am going to auction her off. I will provide a link on the BST board when I have it ready to go. Anyone that posted here helping me out will get 10% off the final number if they end of winning it. Thanks again! I would be kicking myself as I almost listed this on the BST tonight for $100. Shows you what I now about colorful toning.

I would save the trouble and fees and sell it to the guy who offered 125. Good Luck.

    Edit: Oops - I meant 175.

My initial post stated that while it was my intent to sell this coin I was only looking for advice on this board to its worth. I did not wish to be accused using these boards in an inappropriate manner. I would of posted it on the BST if I had an idea of its value. Now it looks like my wife can make an extra 100 or so on its sale. Well worth the 5-10 minutes it will take her to list.

yeah that 175 was tempting but again this is the wrong forum for a sale.

Thanks for the compliment on the coin
