I could use a little help from the experts on the 1798, when I look at the surfaces, i don't know if the dirt on the coin by the devices, is the result of complete originality or the by product of a cleaning where the hardest caked on residue is what remained, or dirt being added to make the coin look crusty.....the fact that it is holdered and stickered I am ignoring for these discussions. >>
It looks like whomever cleaned this coin just did not get all the dirt off of it.

I am going to give the owner of the coin the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to AnkurView™ photography. I have not seen the coin in person.

I can live with that.
Heres another AnkurView while we're at it:
All coins kept in bank vaults. PCGS Registries Box of 20 SeaEagleCoins: 11/14/54-4/5/12. Miss you Larry!
Now that I've taken a photo of this and as usual, it looks much worse than my naked eye had gathered...... Any suggestions as to what 'conservation' might be in order for this? Gotta nip that green rot in the bud!!!

What if we used this thread to break down the idea of original a little bit ? Its a state that more and more collectors seem to be seeking, but as RYK posted, it seems like a good half of us may be deluding ourselves as to just how original our "original coins" are...
I'll post up a couple that I'll say may or may not be original, and see what happens...for what it's worth, both are CAC'd, but does CAC automatically mean original ? edited to add, no hairlines on the coins....
