1987 Hoffecker Collection Auction Morgans

Thought this to be a cool story to share and i`m finally getting a chance to finally get to it...
Starts out at this years FUN coin show... I ended up acquiring a VERY special toned Morgan at the show from a fellow toned coin fanatic Tom T.(BigMoose)... This 81-S Morgan(Pink Panther) has a very unique look that makes the liquid surfaces very hard to capture in an image as well with the eye appeal, that quite simply leaves you with your chin on the floor... Funny thing is until the FUN show and seeing it for the first time at FUN i had never known that the coin ever existed... Tom had a bunch of wonderful coins to share looks at but when i saw this one i guess perhaps it were my trembling hands and/or perhaps the sweat on my brow and upper lip Tom took my very hopeful offer and explanation that "i just have to have it!" Actually Tom for no other reason parted with that Morgan for no other reason then knowing what that coin meant to me... From there i was off to see Todd for imaging which came out wonderful as ultimate as can be captured of a colorful Morgan with slick icy surfaces...
To top it all off sometime after, Tom told me he was going to send me the catalog of the Hoffecker Collection from a Superior Auction in Feb. 1987 in which the plate pics for my new Morgan are included... Tom also said he thought i would most likely find a few more Morgans from my collection that would be in there as well...To say the least i was ecstatic of his first rate generosity... After receiving the catalog ends up there are two more that are in my collection, Armageddon(Lot 1472) and Stitched Perfection(Lot 1567) that are in there as well... And of course Pink Panther(Lot 1632) which Tom named as my request for him to pick the name...
Anyway here`s a bunch of pics starting with Todd`s beautiful image of the Pink Panther and following my pics of the Superior auction catalog of the Hoffecker Collection and my set up pics of plates 2 and 3 from the catalog with the actual coins just to the immediate left of each of the appropriate plate coins...
Anyway hope everyone enjoys i know i sure did...Thank you Tom

<< <i>AB, I knew you would really enjoy the Hoffecker Sale catalogue and I had two of them. Bryan Sonnier first pointed out the Hoffecker Sale to me and told me that the colorful plates of bag toned Morgans were all from the Continental Bank Hoard. I knew you would find other coins on those plates that you already owned. Keep looking as there may be more of yours on those plates. Todd nailed the image of the "Pink Panther". I saw the look on your face and knew it was going to a very good home when you made your offer. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of this coin as I have over the past several years. TomT. >>
We have been enjoying that Morgan very much already and a family hit...Todd did nail it! Not easy on those kind...
I will have to look closer you have me wondering now if perhaps i have missed more in those plates that i may own...Now that you mention it that is most definitely that amazing Seated Quarter of yours on the cover Tom... Just beautiful!
Thanks again...

That is cool! However some of the other Morgans in the plates pic aren`t to shabby either and a few in there I would love to own...

I remember I had an arrangement with Larry Goldberg back then where he would Fed-Ex auction lots for me to look at for 24 hrs. and I'd Fed-Ex them back. The Goldberg brothers had some really great auctions back in the 80's, and monster toned Morgans were also a bit more reasonable in price back then :-)
Dragon that`s a very cool story and wish you still had those Morgans to share views of... And both Larry and Ira are class acts with some great coin auctions...
Rodebaugh that would definitely be different...
