1976 Topps George Brett - why is this such a tough card?

1976 Topps George Brett card number 19

Anyone got any info on this card? Pop report shows over a 1000 graded but only 7 PSA 9's and only 182 PSA 8's (and no 10's)

What's the skinny?

Anyone have a scan of a nice one?

Centering is almost always off on this card.

very tough to get centered...the card was on the outside of the 132 card sheet and is almost always off cut...
9s sell for over $1500

...I think the card will sell for a lot more now. There have been two on eBay this winter with very high bin or best offer. My best offer was a LOT higher than the average sale price and I still got the heisman

I once opened a vending case of 1976. Besides the centering, there is very often a TON of snow on this card. I find more examples of this cards with PD than with OC.

I am very lucky. I have purchased around 8 or so from Ebay and have 2 psa 8's and 1 BVG 8 POP 8 only 1 8.5. But, the centering is near impossible to find anywhere close to 50/50.

centering, snow, and there always seems to be a lot of them with ink spots/stains on them.
I recently bought a PSA 8 on ebay, which I posted here and it was roundly criticized for being a poor quality 8, which it is.

There was a PSA 9 on ebay recently, first with a BIN of $4500, then lowered to $3600, then I think it was pulled because item was no longer available.

PSA 9(OC) is equal to a PSA 7

The most recent PSA 9 on the bay was not centered well enough to drop big coin on, IMO. If I ever saw a 9 that was really solid to high-end for the grade, I'd throw a fat offer at it for sure.

I bet many guys will wind up buying the flip on this card in a 9 holder just for the status.

I haven't seen one of the PSA 10 78 Bretts for sale; would love to see if they are truly solid 10s.

I have a raw one with good centering but the corners are not strong enough to get graded...
