Question about coin Albums

For awhile now I have been storing my little collection in Dansco albums, but today I saw a similiar product called Intercept Shield albums and was told that they may be better for storing coins than Dansco. While these albums seem to be of similiar make up (appearance) as the Dansco product and I have absolutely no intention, reason, or funds to switch over to new albums for my collection I am curious however to learn which of these two products is (or could be better). So then my question to this forum which type of albums do you use to store your collection?

Is it Dansco, Intercept, Whitman, Littleton, or some other album product that you use and was also wondering as to what your reasoning would be for your choice?

Yes, we know, you worship our hosts. But that wasn't the OP's question.

To answer the OP's question, I use Eagle Coin Albums for my raw storage. They are made from inert plastic and, in my humble opinion, are the best album product out there... so they are expensive. I like the look of them and like I said, the materials are all inert so they won't affect the coin even over long periods of time. Dansco's and other paper/cardboard based album have been known to tone coins, sometimes with ugly results.
  • No need to switch, Dansco makes excellent albums, as do the others named. If you live in an area with high humidity, put the album inside a ziplock food bag.

Yes, the Intercept albums are a bit better in terms of preservation, but especially for circulated coins, that extra bit doesn't mean much. More damage tends to happen through mishandling that occurs putting in the coins, and removing coins, than happens in storage for the double sided albums.

  • I'm not planning on switching my albums anytime soon. I was just wondering what others were using. By the way, I do live in a high humidity area. From May through Oct or Nov the humidity %age is usually running right around 90 from the time we get up until well after sundown, and sometimes it's like that throughout the night (Deep south with the A/C running all the time). So I guess I'll have to think about getting some large ziplock bags.

When I start another album I may think about something new and better to keep my coins in.

    Thanks for the info.

I don't "worship" our host, but they are the best slab to have your coins in.

Actually there are things bout our host that I wish I could change!
