PCGS CAC Gold Question

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,780 ✭✭✭✭✭
Would a properly graded Morgan, say in MS65 that is clearly Proof Like yet not designated as such receive a CAC gold decal?

I saw an older PCGS MS65 slabbed Morgan that appears to be a strong PL* yet appeared to be properly graded at MS65.
Would such a coin, if CAC agreed the PL designation is worthy, give the coin a gold bean or is that based strictly on grade (and not designation).

I was also thinking about FSB Mercury dimes and such... perfectly graded yet "under graded" as per the designation. Gold sticker?

  • Gold beans are for undergraded by a point coins. That does not include PL designations. If the coin in CAC's mind was a 66 or 66PL it would get a gold bean. CAC does not factor in PL or DMPL designations.

Ok, so the chalkiest, ultra contrasted GEM Morgan wouldn't get the gold bean if the coin was severely under-designated?
(I know that's not my example- it is PL at best.)

    Ok. Good to know.

But it would certainly get the green bean and an offer to buy it.........image
