Let's see who can come closest to the attribution done by the folks from whom I purchased these nice pieces... (RobP - please give others a chance before you get the inevitable gold star.

The first looks like a copper styca(?) of Aethelred II, dating around 830-43.
Added: Moneyer- Eanred.
Added: Is that PVLNOD MO EOFR? Not sure, but EOF(R) was used for York mint, wasn't it?
Anyone else?
I gotta say... I love these coins. Old, historical, cool as heck, and relative to light-side fairly cheap. And, best of all, most folks won't rag on me for keeping them un-slabbed.

The coinage quality took a huge hit during this era, but it's still one of my favorite periods to learn about. I'd love to get some of those Anglo-Saxon coins, my earliest right now is a Henry II tealby.

I may eventually extend this pursuit to Bosworth, or even the Tudors, but for now I think I will stick with Anglo-Saxon coinage. Money is tight for me, and CICF is approaching what the near certainty of expensive talers being dangled before my eyes. Still, I'm drooling over a handful of Anglo-Saxon pennies that are of nice quality.

<< <i>Every time I look at Plantagent coinage, I can't help think of Henry V's speech to his troops before battle at Agincourt. I get chills. Ooh...
Agincourt! My favorite battle vs. the Frenchies.
