Neat. I am from Edmonton, but I have no clue about the medal.

Since it has a makers mark indicating Alberta Mint, that would be a good source to research. Private enterprise, maybe still in business?

I suspect that piece is a souveneur (sp) from Fort Edmonton Park. It looks like a modern strike in pewter or antiqued silver to me.

Have you considered looking in business directories for cities in Alberta? I found a newspaper article through a Google search from 1985 about how Alberta Mint won a contract to create Martin Luther King Jr. medals for U.S. school children.

I looked at that a few days ago.
But the mint is NOWHERE to be found..
I will call Edmonton today and see if a museum can help me.
thank you all for your input.

It's a souvenir medallion first issued in 1974 to commemorate the opening of Fort Edmonton Park.I believe Alberta mint was a branch of Sherritt Mint.

    DBM,
I bought it from a German collector who had it for many years..... Maybe you are right.
was trying to find the Sherrit mint also.... NO luck...
If it was 1974... they could not date it 18**, they would have to say it is a redo of something.. IMO

It is as I said,it's not a mystery. The Fort was to be rebuilt to 1846 plan.
