Not my auction but I'm tempted even though I can't really swing it right now.

61 does seem rather rough from those pics.

    No pic of the reverse?

Why doesn't the seller upgrade it?

Maybe seeing the reverse would explain some things?

    Now that coin has POP!!!

Looks way undergraded. The marks in the field by the Y in Liberty must be alot worse that the images show.

Rob, the reverse is the side with the eagle.

Even with the chatter over by the "Y" it looks better than 61.

Wow, That's funny! It wasn't there the first time I looked at it. Mebbe something to do with the nook I'm using.

And, now, I agree, looks like a really nice coin for the gradeimage

Only thing I can imagine is if the rim is dinged up. But from those pictures I would also say its being under graded.

What is the prime focal area on a Peace $? Similar to a Morgan? Definitely one you want to see in hand.

Edited. The eye looks weird, or is it just me?

Since it's priced at 63 money, it's not much or a bargain whether it upgrades or not.

I would have GTG'ed wrong on that one, but it is aggresively priced.

This is the best answer so far IMO:

In my experience Peace dollars are one of the hardest coin to grade and grade by pictures. The pics looks to be at a funny angle and light pattern and I would put my faith in the graders at PCGS over the chat room grader here. Besides there is no upside at that price even if it is a 62. I posted a MS61 Peace dollar with good photos not too long ago and people were oh that a 64 or 63 and what not and it is an honest 61 sooooooooo just remember opinions are generally worth what you pay for them.

IMO it looks about like a lustrous chatty 61 peace dollar. For comparisons

All the photos are with the coin tilted. I would like to see one straight on.

I would not touch it. It is 61 for a reason. It is amazing what light can do.

Those images are meant to trick the eye into seeing something that is not. The seller claims this particular coin has "no marks at all" "all white" and "no toning" I for one don't buy it...what appears to be to good to be true usually is just that, no returns, buyer beware.

All those hits near the T and Y are reeding hits. Imo 61, you would have to be super lucky to get an upgrade on this one.

I'm guessing it's hairlined or has some other issues that are not showing up in the pics.

There is definitely something your not seeing in the pic. This is similar to a coin a local dealer had here last year, a PCGS Green label 60. A wow coin at first glance, but when you look closer, its hairlined pretty significantly.

I'm with 66RB, upgrade it then, if it's undergraded by two or three points.
I have doubts that PCGS would Fup a key date grade. Pics can be deceiving.
Judging by the pics I'm leaning towards 63.

I had a nice PCGS AU58 I sold a few years back that I liked better. Need to see if I still have some pics.

The MS61 does look undergraded by a point or two from the pics.

They all look the same to me. image

They got the grade right. The hits by the T and Y are really bad, otherwise the coin would be in a 64 holder.

That sure looks great from his pics... Yet since it could look entirely different in hand the seller not offering any sort of return option is a turn off.

    Edited to add:

The pics are taken free handed with a point and shoot camera... Apposed to a fixed DSLR that's mounted on a copy stand.

There's some luxuries to photographing coins that route as your able to angle the coin and camera until your capture the most forgiving shots.

Hence I genuinely doubt this MS61 example would show up looking as mark free as the sellers images.
