Well, last weekend was the SLC coin show, it's a fairly small show, but still a worthy endeavor. It is housed in an annex of the Salt Lake Community College, the Larry H. Miller Building. Frequently I go without buying anything, but other years I come home with a slew of items. This year falls into the later catergory.
In general the show seemed much more active than it has been the last few years. I'm happy to report that it was hard to navagate through the aisles with the many people (both days) and vying for a seat in front of your favorite dealer was an exercise in patience. I was there from about 11-3 on Friday and 12-2 on Saturday, not as a dealer, just as a buyer.
I saw a few good forumites, Drunner, Baseballabs (as well as a couple more, but I don't recall names at the moment.)...as well as a few favorite dealers.
Here are the goods!
A coin that will replace my current example, this one's only slightly higher grade, but about 10x nicer looking.
The S/s variety, original, but not without some minor marks, I believe this is one of the higher grades extant...perhaps condition census???...I don't know yet. There are currently no uncirculated examples known.
Bought this one partly for the holder, it fits a hole in my PCGS generations set, it's the blue holder with the barcode on the reverse. Don't remember the holder type at the moment.
Obviously purchased for the counterstamp, haven't looked up the history yet, but I know it's listed in Brunk.
Nice love token, too cheap to pass up for the quality of workmanship.

Finding another original one in this kind of grade would be close to impossible. The estimated (total) population is around 50, I think perhaps it's a bit higher. I would imagine 75% or more that exist falls in the Fine or lower range. PCGS coinfacts has listed a single AU (53) example in their census, the rest are in the Fine range. I'm also aware of a single AU58 that sold at auction (at $40K) and a handful of VF-XF coins, most with some sort of major problem.

I would recommend that you contact Larry Briggs directly. His knowledge of the series is extensive and nearly unmatched. There are also several Seated quarter specialists over on the LSCC forums that may have the info.

I will be in contact with Briggs tomorrow, and will ask him about the 56-S/s in higher grades. Borderline XF? A real shame about the reverse marks, but nothing totally distracting.
And that 55-O is quite pleasing. I'd be thrilled with either piece, not to mention both! (Just saw the price on the seated forum... what a rip! At $500, still probably would have been a deal!)

I was doing just quarters, but decided to stick with a date set of tougher mints for now, (O mints, S mints, some CC mints and Phillies for the rest) and see where that leads in the future. The whole series is just a TON of coins...most of which are difficult to acquire.

The love is built right into the name.
From what I described, he said it's still a very nice, tough coin, but not condition census.
So not the best news, but still a great coin!
Guess I'll have to sell it and find an AU!
