Old Pitted Copper. Is this worth keeping?

Cleaning out the closet today and forgot that i had this coin. Picked it up at a yard sale about six years ago. If i remember right it cost me $1. I know nothing about copper. Can someone tell me what this is? Thank you

Looks like a Connecticut copper. Not sure if it's real or not,but I would say its worth keeping. Someone will be along that knows about these soon.

It's definitely real and definitely worth more than a dollar.

It's a 1788 Connecticut copper, Miller 16.2-O, which is a fairly elusive (R-5) variety. R-5 CTs don't generally bring much of a premium unless the grade is superb, which this one isn't. A slightly nicer one sold for $126 at StacksBowers last week. This one is a slightly more advanced die state, which some may find more interesting, but with its surfaces it's probably a $50-75 coin to a specialist.

Nice thing to find for $1, or in a closet!

It looks like a Connecticut copper to me and I think it's real but I'm far from an expert on colonials.

Either way for a dollar, that's a great score. I'm sure it'd be worth more than a buck even if it were fake.
