Anybody know what PCGS code "85" means?

I tried to cross an NGC graded PF65RB with a green CAC sticker to PCGS at the same grade.
It did not cross.

I just got the NGC slabbed coin back from PCGS in the mail
(They left it in the old NGC holder per my wishes)
However they rubber-banded a PCGS label with this number

2364.85 / 24136557

.85 is the code … right?

Does anybody know what the code .85 means?

It's not listed in PCGS’s Codes Table

http://www.pcgs.com/nogrades.html

No 85 is listed (though both 84 and 86 are)

Thanks for any information!

    Thank you!

So your IIRC means "If I Remember Correctly"

If anyone else wants to chime in with a verification or other info, that would be great.

Hmmm .... looks like "No Decision" is code 86 ... (not 85)

Code 85 is still a mystery!

If anyone knows the meaning of code 85, post.
If no one knows, I will try calling PCGS but I hate bothering them as I know they are swamped.

WL1957 - if you PM a mailing address to me, I'll send a 2010 PCGS pocket guide for the cert. codes. The No decision code is 86. The guides that I have do not include a code 85. I suggest you call CS and ask. PCGS may have updated the codes to add some, but I don't recall any announcement to that effect. The current list is available on the pcgs.com site.

Edited to add: I see you found the guide.

Is there any indication of the abbreviation DNC on the copy of the submission form that came back with your coin?

could it just mean that it didn't cross?

    thank you coinduece and steveben.

yes, i am guessing that "85" might mean

"Grade assigned by other company is too high" or "Did not cross at requested grade"

But this is just a guess

So i bet they would have graded it if I allowed a 1 grade drop.

It's odd that if this is a new code, they wouldnt update their code tables with the new info, but maybe PCGS will after seeing this post???

I will email PCGS as I bet if I called them, whomever I get on the phone wont know the answer either!

    ".85" is a non-existent problem coin designation so it's an error label,pop 1.

“I believe in intuitions and inspirations. I sometimes feel that I am right. I do not know that I am. When two expeditions of scientists, financed by the Royal Academy, went forth to test my theory of relativity, I was convinced that their conclusions would tally with my hypothesis. I was not surprised when the eclipse of May 29, 1919, confirmed my intuitions. I would have been surprised if I had been wrong. I am enough of the artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” Albert Einstein- quoted in Saturday Evening Post interview (1929)

“Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.” For Einstein, honesty was fundamental. Attention to truth in small things reflected a person’s integrity on a larger scale.

    Thanks mr1974!

"non-existent problem" coin designation ... i actually understand

So just a generic DNC ... all i need to do is drop my minimum acceptible grade.

    Thanks again all!

Yep, same code on one of my coin submissions that didn't cross at the minimum grade I had specified.
  • An '85' code means 'did not cross'. We were not able to meet or exceed the present grade or the minimum grade you listed.

Ahh ... Thank you so much Customer Service!

    I appreciate the clarification

Maybe have someone add that code to your nice online table just for completeness!

    NOT A CODE 85!!!

It means the Secretary has to disavow your coin ever existed..

    Oh wait...that's Mission Impossible...never mind!
