90% silver - premium for BU rolls over circ rolls?

droopyddroopyd Posts: 5,381 ✭✭✭
How much of a premium, if any, is there for BU rolls of common-date 90% silver over rolls of circulated coins? I'm talking about stuff like 1960-64 Roosies and Washies. Thanks!

Depends on how BU, but I can tell you that it is a significant premium.

  • I have ready access to both at one the coin shops I frequent. My guy generally wants about a 12- 15% premium for BU (Federal Reserve bank shotgun wrapper with toned end coins) rolls. The 12% is usually on halves and quarters and 15% on dimes for single rolls. Now this is for very late 1950's and early 1960's dimes, quarters and halves. I bought about $120 face value off of him last year and actually did pretty well because I got 61 type b Washington Quarters out of those rolls (although I would say that is atypical). I buy them because I like to have some fractional silver around and the .999 silver fractionals are way overpriced and I prefer BU 90% coins over them even without the price difference.

Thanks! That's what I was afraid of. At least they're worth more than face...
