I've been trying to pick up a doiley as a gift for a friend and have been shocked at the premiums these bring. I wish I still had the few I've long since sold. There's a big market for these.

I had a chance to buy about a dozen MS 64 Morgans
years ago in "Doily" holder's, never knew what they
were and passed on them. In the pass few years
I've paid "crazy" prices for them.

Then again there are 3 on eBay that are at uber crazy money that have been there since Moby Dick was a minnow.

That is one of those that sort of flew under the radar [at least for me] since the title doesn't contain but one of the keywords one would use to search for these. Never even knew it was on eBay, but apparently enough did to run the price up nice.

    Double?

You actually thought you'd pick that up for a little over $75? image

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I can't see that selling for $75...... even if it is a common type. $125 seems about right??

    That was exactly my intention.
    Many happy BST transactions

    Well, if no one saw it was a Doily . . . . . I guess possible since the lister didn't seem to know, then maybe $75 wasn't that far off . . . . .

But in reality, there seem to be a few here on the Boards, and who knows how many others (since despite out thinking . . . we aren't the only ones on eBay or knowledgeable about Doilies) who spend an inordinant time on eBay searching for this stuff. I really don't see the chance of a Doily going for sheet anymore . . . . . too many guys willing to nuke it and hope.

Hence my diminishing thoughts on eBay. Much easier having a few national dealers looking for you and just paying what they want. Simpler and in the long run . . . . cheaper.

The selling price of that coin was about right for a doily. I think your bid was a bit too short if you were in the market for a doily.

At $152 some I think it was a deal. The "doily premium" seems to be $150 to $200. --Jerry
