Price guide $12, asking $175. I guess the "lowball" word is out! image

Crazy, especially considering seated quarters are cake to get into a PO1 holder, especially if you're looking at the "with rays" 1853, you don't even need to see a date to identify it. That's the challenge, identifying one that's low enough to grade PO1, but high enough to identify...not hard in the seated quarter series.

If we were talking a steel cent, or a modern coin, this would be a STEAL at the price.

I'm just saying, if you're willing to submit your own coins to PCGS, and spend some time looking on ebay, you can save about $140 off the sticker price!

If it's so easy, sounds like a nice money making opportunity image
(I, for one, don't think it is as easy as it sounds....nor do I play the lowball game)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I've done it a number of times with bust and seated items. They are some of the easiest ones to do I think. The more modern, the tougher it is...in my experience. (Perhaps barber quarters would be an exception, they got REALLY worn.)

This is what I really didn't like about this set -- it totally changes the market so that lower grades can be worth more than higher grades and might give some people an excuse to try to "wear down" a higher grade coin into a PO-1. (I know that's easier said than done but some people will try, and ruin coins in the process.)

I think the coin in the listing is actually an FA2, the submitter got lucky! (If such can be said.)

You see the same amount of wear on this coin: 1840-O Bottom middle coin. It's an 1840-O without drapery, we know this even if you can't make out the "O" because they didn't make an 1840 p no-drapery. This coin should be a PO-1, or an FA-2. I figure half the time you will get the low grade.

I only spent two minutes looking! Not too difficult. Maybe I should open a "Lowball" store, if these really sell for $175 there's probably some money there.

    Agreed.

I've sold two PO-1 Seated quarters in the past year or so. Both sold no reserve on eBay for around $60-70 iirc. This dealer is just looking for a sucker and won't sell that coin anytime soon. PO collectors are crazy, not stupid!
  • I've seen the word "lowball" in lots of ebay descriptions. They're cool, and they're collected. image
Let's try not to get upset.
