1819 Bust Half NEWP

Billet7Billet7 Posts: 4,923 ✭✭✭
Bought this coin today for standard 1819 money, but I was pretty sure it was the overdate (1819/8.) As such I believe I got a pretty good price. It's not perfect, but should be within market standards, I think it will probably certify. I was originally thinking of flipping the coin, but now I'm thinking about holding onto it. It has a charming originality to it I think.

What are your thoughts? Overdate? Grade? Like/dislike?

I think it has a 50/50 chance of certifying because of those reverse pin-sized digs

Not bad otherwise on originality image

Funny thing is, they aren't that noticeable in hand...they look TERRIBLE in the pics. There are some other tics that look a bit worse in hand though...so whatdoyado?
  • These big blown up pictures make mountains out of molehills. In your case they make craters out of pinholes. Don't know if it will grade or not but I like it and think it is a nice original coin.

This is the O. 104 1819/8. R. 1. I like the look of this coin very much and I can see why you're thinking of hanging on to it. The reverse digs are more like stars in the sky behind the eagle's head. Nice grab!

I had a CBH with similar digs that I sent in to PCGS. It would not certify.

It's a nice looking coin and doesn't seem to be messed with, I really don't care about TPG services when it comes to personal preferences.

    She's purdy and I like'er. image

PS I also agree with bosco's comments.

Yeah, I've had the same thing happen...course I've also had similar things certify, so I think Stone probably nailed it. Probably a 50/50. Maybe take more than one attempt.

Honestly I'm thinking of eventually doing a dansco of halves, that's where she'd end up. I will probably just keep her until such a time I'm serious about the album.

Nice looking coin, with excellent details.
    Unquestionably authentic and original.
I have lots of em like that, and they are a lot more fun
than the certified ones, if you really like to look at them. image

What do you guys think a grade would be?...both net and details.

    I think she looks 30 something !
Very nice, and I'd keep her raw with or without the pin holes...

Net XF with AU details. Probably a 45+ all things considered.
It really would depend on how much some of the dings deter from
the look in hand. Well struck, with good details helps it alot.

Sorry, but I don't think PCGS will grade this one.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
  • Regardless of whether it would be graded or not, the coin is a keeper and I wish I had it for my own.image

it looks like a nice origianal coin from here. nice pick up image
  • I would think this coin would do well attributed by variety even if it's in a PCGS Gennie holder. Buyer and seller can make their own decisions about grade and price. Nice find!

I like it Simon, its just a little too largeimage Im not sure PCGS would BB this coin for those small digs. Ive seen and have a few myself with marks like this that received a non BB holder.
