    How big is it?

I was already planning to go to the little monthly show in marietta (which is about 4 miles from my house) on sunday.

    130 miles to perry. hrm.

Last year was 180 tables. Can't seem to find the info on it online this year. I received a postcard in the mail from Middle Ga Coin Club reminding me of the show this month.

I keep wanting to hit that one. That's this one now right? - http://www.atlcoin.com/

I kept not going when it was mobile and more on my side of town once in a while and wish I would have.

The local monthly Atlanta show is maybe 30 dealers, most of whom are what I consider "flea market" type coin guys. Other than a couple of dealers who have a very good inventory selection, it's mostly just lower grade "dreck". I don't mean that as an insult to any of the dealers who attend the show; there is definitely a market for that kind of material. It's just people who haven't attended the show need to have realistic assumptions of what will be offered. It's not Dalton or Chattanooga or even Perry.
My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

I tend to agree with this for the most part and only attend this show about once every three months looking for a little inventory turnover. I usually don't find much, but it's small enough that it doesn't take long to check the whole thing out. And being so close to home, it's not inconvenient to stop in. The last time I was there I did pick up a few of those 50 dollar 2005 nickel mint sewn bags at face so that was pretty cool. Another reason I only tend to go every quarter or so is that the dealer list is fixed. Since the tables are invitation only it is the exact same folks month after month.

Still on the fence about Perry. It's quite a haul for me to get out there.

Perry is about 2 - 2.5 hours from me. I could stay home and do yardwork OR I could take a road trip and go to a coin show. Hmmm, decisions decisions. image

The postcard that the Middle Ga Coin Club sent out said there was 150 dealers. I've heard it is a good show. I'll be there saturday.

If it's not super far, I'd at least suggest checking it out on quarterly or bi-yearly basis. There are a few sellers with neat stuff.

I'd be mostly interested in bullion and halfs. Might hit it next time - I'm in Duluth so it's not too bad a drive.

I might try to make it to this show if there are that many tables...5.5 hour drive is quite a jaunt though!

I was told that they expect 150-180 tables.......may be worth the drive if you have the time.

I'll be set up at the Atlanta show Sunday and in Perry. I must say I had my doubts about the MGCC show moving from Macon to Perry...but (fingers crossed) it seems to be improving each year and I believe has surpassed the performance of the shows in Macon now.

For whoever said it...The Atlanta show is not invitation only. There is only so many tables available and regulars sign a contract each year. Tables do open up on a month to month basis as not all of us can attend every show. If I am unable to attend and my table isn't sold I have to pay for it anyway. Perhaps you should get on the list to be called if a table opens up. I have been doing the show since 1993 or 4...can't remember that far back! image

Don't sell the monthly Atlanta Show short. I go most months and find it to be worthwhile. Back in August I bought a rare Dahlonega quarter eagle at the show: a crusty 1849-D, VF35, in a PCGS rattler holder. Dahlonega gold pieces are very rare in rattler holders.

The website says: "For coin dealers, the Greater Atlanta Coin Show is invitational and includes coin dealers with a variety of numismatic and collectible interests."

Just so you don't think I was making stuff up lol

Hmmmm,I wonder if it's meant in that way? I never read that. I suppose in a way every coin show is invitational to a degree. I'll ask about that this weekend. You have made me curious!

I asked the owner of the show about this yesterday. He was unaware it was on the website and is going to check on it. He said it is in the contract but he has never used it in the more than 20 years the show has existed. It is there incase he ever needs to refuse a table to what I'm sure everyone would consider an undesirable!

I'm thinking about attending on Friday if I feel like making the drive to Perry when I wake up Friday morning. image To anyone who will be attending, do yourself a favor and be sure to stop by Darrell Kreis' table (not sure of what his table # is). He always has a fabulous selection of quality collector-grade coins (with an especially strong selection of Barber material and world coins), and he's as honest, ethical, and friendly as they come.

I hope you're still planning on it Steve. I haven't seen you since they did away with the Atlanta Whitman show.
  • rkfishrkfish Posts: 2,617 ✭✭✭
yes.......will be there fri/sat/sun......look forward to seeing you there. This is my first time setting up at this show so I don't know my table number but I shouldn't be hard to find. The table will be listed under Gilbert Coin Exchange instead of PQDOLLARS as that's my store name.

This will be my first time at the show too. I never cared much for the show when it was in Macon.
It's been a while since I've been to a show though. I'm looking forward to it.
