Anyone wanna help this guy out who just discovered a ton of CBH?

I saw a guy on another forum who was metal detecting and found like 150 silver coins. Some were CBH. I have a link I could provide to his web album where he currently has a few of the images up. I'm really curious to know if he has something awesome! image

PM me if you'd like to take a look!

Thanks!

I think finding 150 silver coins is pretty awesome, even if they are just roosies!

Seems like a cache or two was found!

On top of that a desirable Houck's Panacea Counterstamp (at least it has that shape and design)

    Holy Canoli
That is a really great find.

Do you know if it was an unknown site where they were found or maybe on private property?
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

It would be great to have a time machine and to go back to the 1810-1830 time period in the USA. Just think about all the the great coinage being used in day to day commerce then. US coins and non US coins of all types, metals and denominations.

The pictured coins are an example of what you would see if you were around in the early 1800's.

Sweet! I already see a $500+ counterstamp in there.

That was quite the sum of money too back in the day.
What did the average worker make back then... 50 cents/week?
So we are looking at well over 3 years gross salary for the average guy.
Too bad he probably hid it so well that his surviving family didn't find it either.

Most of those look like they need a good scrubbing image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

No kidding... If this is the find I'm thinking of and it looks quite similar, he found all this in a creek. There's a video of it on youtube as well.

...Perhaps I'm confusing this hoard with a different early hoard, but how many large early 1800s hoards have been found detecting recently?

4th row - 8th coin in is the counterstamp. While I can not read the stamp the shape is distinctive for a Houck's Panacea. Worth $500 easy in any condition.

Here is one I used to own

Anyone know what the odds are of finding a R-5 or better from a virgin collection/hoard?

the upstate new york/old fort site/"mohawk" hoard had at least one R7 coin and probably many R6 and R5s. All were punched near k12 and cleaned, though, still cool

this hoard is interesting and someone who can attribute should look at the coins

Average worker ~1835 (which is when I'm guessing this hoard was buried) made about $3-$5 a week, depending on skill level.

Awesome - funny how far more numerous the CBH are than the DBH. Looks like most small change at that time was still Spanish colonial as well... also interesting to see the four or five French 5 franc pieces.

People must have just went around drilling holes in coins back then.
