Had a funny conversation today at the local B&M.

Stopped by to see if there was anything new.

There was a 10c pattern that I wasn't very familiar with.

Asked the lady, "Do you have a Judd book handy"?

She replies, "Sure, let me get you the Red book".

I say, " No, a Judd book".

She looks confused then consults a more experienced salesman.

He says, "A Jed book?? What's that??"

Are you even gonna find a pattern in the Red Book?

    Hm.

You may want them to use that Red Book to price that pattern.

    It gets better.

I called Boiler78 who let me know the ball park price, roughly 60% of what they are asking.

The guy asks, "Do you want me to check with "name deleted" on the price."??

The price sticker is already on the back of the holder. image

I am surprised you found a pattern at a B&M. I have never seen one outside a show before

Wasn't the Judd book superseded by a newer pattern reference book several years ago?

The Pollack book was quite popular for a while, and it does have a lot of information not in Judd, but it had it's own numbering system not compatible with Judd numbers and was never updated. Still usefull as a reference, but Whitman has recusitated the Judd franchise and that is what everybody uses.

Whitman comes out with a new edition every few years so now I have 5 Judd books (2 original, 3 Whitman). image

I like Pollack as there's more "meat".

USpatterns.com has the better pictures and is updated continually, especially useful for prices realized.
