If I post an image of a coin here, how long should it be before I post it for sale on the BST forum?

Hello Group
If I post an image of a coin here, is there a rule (or an agreed upon standard) of how long I should wait before I post it on the BST forum?

There is no rule - just make sure it ends up on the BST with one "bump" a day.
It's also considered spam for dealer members to post something on here that's available within their inventory.
on the US Coin Forum would go over to the BST, so that I can buy them!

<< <i>Yes it's considered spam for collector members to show something on the forum and then toss it on the bst a few days later. >>
OK, then, what sort of time spam should be between posts here and offers for sale on the BST? A week? A month?
If you post something knowing you will sell it, in short order, I, personally, believe that is spammish.
If you buy something, expressly for flipping it in the near future, it is the same. Exception may be if you are one of the first to get a hot new mint item and no one has seen them yet (ie... 25th annv sets, new quarter design, etc). Again, just my opinion.
If you have a set of coins, you post a favorite of yours, but you end up going to a show/website, getting an upgrade/replacement, and right after, you put the previous on the BST, I would be ok as there was no intent of yours to use the USCF as an advertising medium for you. It was coincidence and just how things worked out.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I don't typicaly mind either... Unless it's blatant or posted that it's for sale here on the discussions section.
I think after a week or so, assuming the initial thread has died and fallen 5-10-15 pages back I don't mind seeing a coin end up on the bst.
As a personal collector who enjoys both buying & selling, I have this dilema often enough.

Just use your best judgement. If it looks like spam, it will probably piss some people off. If not, post it in the BST.
Personally, I wouldn't care at all. If I see something really awesome that I want in a thread, I'd be the first in line to want it in the BST immediately so I could buy it

Not really sure but I feel Bochiman kinda hit the nail on the head, as if it was bought to flip don't post it.
It's about proper etiquette so even if it's listed on an auction site or going to be... Don't post it here.
I have no problem if someone post a picture of a coin for discussion, as long as it is not mentioned that the coin is for sale. The same picture could be on the BST board but as long as there is no link between the two threads, what is the harm?
22 days and 6 hours. (Central time, of course).......
......I collect old stuff......

Bingo. The issues on this board is usually someone has a link on a coin for discussion. Separate threads not linked are fine as far as most of us are concerned.
How many times has someone ask a value before they post on this board? They may not say they are going to sell it outright in the message but that's usually the case.

Some folks use this board like it's Antiques Roadshow, they might not know exactly what they have at first but find themselves much more interested in selling after they learn the true value of their item. My favorites are the ones that ask for attribution / authentication and value, they get some replies with a price range, and then a few days later the coin shows up on the BST or eBay with a Buy It Now three times the highest quoted price in the thread.
To the OP's question, I agree with the folks who say to wait a few days to a week for the thread to drop off the first few pages before selling on the BST.

I agree. If you are posting to "hype" up the coin, then it should not be done. Intent is crucial. However, if you want to post it to have a meaningful discussion or question and then decide to sell it, I do not see a problem.
I think what I might just do is post it here, and wait a week or two after any thread it generates dies down.
Now post the pic..
Hoard the keys.
<< <i>Your doing it all wrong you post it on the BST then you ask this.....

Funny... well I gotta take it first, and it may turn out looking like garbage again which makes this whole thread moot
In other words, although we can't specifically define, measure, and quantify spam, we do know it when we see it.
