FS War Nickels went through the roof on HA FUN today

Almost all of them went for close to double PCGS price guide and some went for more than double. I was a little suprised at the results but it looked like there were some pretty nice examples. Maybe the winning bidders thought that they might get a plus on the end of the grade. I forgot about them selling earlier today or I might have upgraded one or two of mine from 66 to 67. The only on that I saw that was close to guide was the 43D.

I don't understand the bids on the 1943-P. Based on those photos, it seems lackluster and the color has no pop at all.

I couldn't get passed the obverses on most of those coins for the strikes although, for a couple of them, I thought were amazongly markfree.

I was comparing the prices in the "Guidebook of Buffalo and Jefferson Nickels" by Q. David Bowers. The Jefferson section looks like a Redo of Nagengast's (sp?) book? Anyway, the prices you're showing are about 20% to 40% higher than the estimated prices outlined in this 2007 edition book. Some higher grade FS nickels are pretty dang rare and worth the $$$ if you're trying to put together a world class set.

I was the underbidder on the 39-S in MS67. I thought almost double guide would get it with a $1000 bid. I guess I was wrong.

I think that the 43P might look better in hand, HA's pics don't always show toning that well. It would not fit into my set anyway because of the toning. I totally agree with you on the 43-S, and I would hae been bidding on it if I had not forgot about the auction on saturday.

I have a 43-S that in the Heritage photo appeared completely untoned. I was pleasantly surprised, the coin is dynamite.
