WOW, that is a lot of proof and mint sets! I like how the seller said the owner asked his name not to be given, but then this is one of the pics:

I guess that could well be the consignors address, however I personally have half a dozen or more proof sets with other peoples addresses that were not blacked out that I've bought from dealers.

are the images not working now or is it just me?

Now that would take up some room on a slab lable LOL

They had an auction a week or 2 ago for this same lot with the reserve and it ended at over $95,000, but of course they had a reserve on that one too that didn't end up selling. The fee's on something like that gotta be heavy.

Had the seller put together a list of what there was, including quantities of coins in those vast piles, maybe he'd stand a chance at a bid. There's some potentially cool stuff in there. 1871-CC $1 in XF, semi-key Morgans, including what could be a very nice 94-O, Unc. Walkers from the 30s. Just way to many question marks for anyone to bite on eBay. If it's being relisted after a long time, I'm betting there was an interceding potential buyer who took a closer look and then passed.
  • Holy cow. 80 bids @ $99,600 and just the one photo?!?!

Scroll down and click on the link that says something to the effect of "more pictures".

Does Ebay permit external links in the description? I thought not.
  • Click on the flashing link and be treated to 300 photos. There are some tough morgans in the right slots in the albums. I'd want to know if the mintmarks are on the back though.

I thought as long as it doesn't lead to another selling venue it's fine?

  • Boy.....at the right price that would be one nice collection......

Just based on >1,000 lbs (75% of it silver coins) would equate to $283,000.
Then toss in the $150K in collectible coins suggested. That's $433K total.

Someone is pretty far off in the overall value.

It looks like someone is trying to retire, more than it looks like a coin collection. Just my opinion.

THis is the third time this has been offered (at least). I inquired about breaking up the Seated Dollar set
to get the 70cc (damaged) and he would not do that.

ya i sat down just for my own pleasure to calculate what i would bid if i did have the money

and came up with a SIGNIFICANTLY larger number than the top bid and felt I was still well under numismatic value let alone not calculating for any

pl/dmpl/cameo/omm/rpd/vams/sheldons/newcombs/mccloskeys etc etc that are secretly hiding in the lot

i would like to have a few hundred thousand laying around to just go purchase a collection like this just for the experience and fun of going through it

i've appraised a lot of coins that filled 18 tubs that were around 18 gallons in size, all i could do to move some of them literally and had to do it in a timely fashion unfortunately (3 weeks)

would be nice to go through every coin in a collection like that 1 at a time with time to spare!!!

Maybe Richard Nachbar would go buy it before he retires again.

Most people are noticing the key date and semi-key Morgans. A a Lincoln collector I was drawn to that and I saw there are also filled holes for the 09-SVDB, the 14-D and every other coin except the 22 plain. And yeah that is a ton of silver. Well... half a ton image
