Las Vegas Coins Shops?

Headed to Las Vegas this month for a few days. Always like to pick up a little something as I travel. Can anyone suggest any coin shops or other numismatic interests in that area? Thanks in advance!

  • Same here- but I'll be there at the end of the month for a conference of crazy sadistic safety pro's. So finding anything good will be at a few pawn shops as always..

I"m leaving Sunday. Love it out there. Usually don't make it to the coin shops though. Have been to a couple over the years. Maybe it's time to make time to revisit them.

Pawns Stars shop is over priced.

Never been and looking forward to it. What do you love about vegas? anything in particular you'd suggest?
I've heard that the pawn stars shop usually has a long line to get in...not that big a fan, prefer to go to shops and at least you can shoot the breeze with coin people.

If you do a search, there have been a few threads over the years on coin stores there.
I found the Sahara Coins one to be pretty cold. Inflexible on most things. Could just be me. I don't look or smell like money. If I see something I like, I usually get it, but I am not going to overpay for something that isn't unique and they didn't even want to move from the sticker price.

The shop in the casino (I forget which one it was...north end of the main strip I think) really didn't have anything but modern things, nothing cool, and the quoted hours are very flexible (ie....no one was there....set up an appt ahead of time or call the number posted and wait for someone to show).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I think Stefanie (Coinsarefun) goes to Vegas a couple times a month, bet she could offer some suggestions.
  • I live in Vegas, hence the UNLV! I like Sahara Coins, they have a TON to look at, but they are VERY proud of their prices, however they are very FAIR on bullion, rounds and bars - straight forward SPOT + a couple bucks pricing. For fun I brought a couple coins to see what they would pay and it was just over 50% of retail (I think that's what I would expect a dealer to offer). American Coin Express is OK when they have items - you usually have to hit him up after a coin show and go though his items before he posts them on Ebay - gotten some pretty good deals there, but again hit or miss - they are on Sunset and Pecos - almost across from Wayne Newtons House so you can do the tourist thing at the same time! The Pawn Starts (actually Gold and Silver Pawn) they are on Charleston and LV BLVD but are VERY PROUD of their items and you are supposed to pay a super premium for the priviledge of buying from them! Some of the other smaller Pawn Shops around Gold and Silver Pawn have items from time to time as well - but not a neighborhood you want to be at after dark! Golden Nugget right up the street from Pawn Stars has a gold vending machine! I think it's Spot + 15% and you can get eagles or bars up to an ounce I believe. As I said to someone once before who was coming to town - you have to pay sales tax on any item that has a monetary value on the coin - so be prepared for that. No sales tax on bars, rounds, etc. But an Austraillian Kookaburra or Eagle - sales tax! However American Coin Express will typically discount down to absorb sales tax if you are purchasing multiple items. That's my 2 cents! There is a guy with a booth at the Fantastic Indoor Swapmeet, but I complained about him in another post and refuse to ever visit his table again, didn't seem to have much of anything special anyway. Enjoy your visit and thanks for contributing to our economy!!!

Rick and Corey were on Leno last night. Rick just flat admitted that their shop is now pretty much a gift shop and "pawn shop" in name only.
