  The spike is a clash from the back of Liberty's neck. Leroy Van Allen only catalogs these if there are multiple such clashes or if they reach into the letters. You'll probably also see a wiggly clash in the rays below DOLLAR from the top of Liberty's head.

  Thanks, John, but this coin does not exhibit the wiggly clash, but does faintly exhibt the "v" clash as mentioned on VAMWORLD's diagnostics----
