2011-S 25th PCGS MS70 coin price on ebay went up (revised topic name)

The going rate for 2011-S 25th PCGS MS70 should be $450.00 or $500.00. Somehow mine sold for $560.00 o.O
Prices going up or did I just get lucky?

that or the prices are going to be going up soon since everyone is done spending for holidays and the new year is 2012 and not 2011 so people think it's 1 year old or something. Weird...
No scratches on edge of coins
No shiny spots
No dust spots
IMO paying a premium for that if he guarantees it under 40x magnification is worth it
I guess I could be wrong, but that seems a little overboard for me.
Wondercoin
Never heard of this before...
Course...I just started collecting so this point of view may change in the future lol. 2011 ASE's were my first collection set

<< <i>Nah actually doing a quick swap. That one had 1 flaw on it that's noticeable with a 40x glass, but now that I found out PCGS can wipe it off from another post I am regretting it. I found a coin that someone is selling (may pay more than what I sold mine for though) that he guarantees it's in flawless condition.

Sometime in the future you will look back at this thinking and laugh. Or regret it.
PCGS doesn't wipe coins, FWIW. Wiping is bad.
Lance.

Even more rare may be the regular blue label non-FS holders. Unlike the OP, I don't think it's cool to brag about the selling prices you receive, but without being specific I'll say that every one of my key date 25th anniversary set coins (in the regular blue non-FS holders) that I've sold has been significantly above the selling prices of the flag or bulk holders at the time. In fairness, my sample size isn't huge though. It's not just the perceived rarity of that "normal" holder though. A couple of my buyers specifically told me that they didn't like the special labels (including the FS flag labels) and wanted regular labels to match their other PCGS holdered coins.

Well those lables will be the rarest
<< <i>I like the coins to look nice with eye and also with 40x magnifier.

<< <i>Yeah everyone keeps telling me that. But I like pristine condition coins =D >>
I've been reading your posts, in regard to 'pristine' coins, and your 40X magnifier. I like your passion for wanting the 'best' coins you can get...every collector does. But........as the first sentence above states...''I like the coins to look nice with eye and also with 40x magnifier''. If they look good to the eye, why bring out a 40X magnifier????
If you like your coins to look 'pristine', and 'nice' under a 40X magnifier, and the 25th ASE was your first set, and you are new to the hobby, you are going to have a mighty tough time finding coins to add to your collection. I can see it now...you'll be sending coins back every day, because they aren't pristine. You are seeking absolute, 100% perfection, not simply a pristine coin. If I were you, I'd get rid of that 40X magnifier, and go with a 5X loupe (MAYBE a 10X also), and get used to viewing coins through it. If you are going to insist every coin looks 'pristine' under a 40X, dealers will be shutting you off right and left, as you'll be sending back nearly every coin you buy, as you WILL find some sort of imperfection on every coin if you are using a 40X magnifier.
What are you going to do when you send in sealed boxes to PCGS or NGC without the benefit of looking at your coins before sending them in? You won't be able to check them with your 40X magnifier....what do you do when they DON'T come back MS/PR70? You'll lose the 7 day Mint return policy, for starters. When a PCGS 70 coin is purchased (let's use the ASE), it's a 70, period (unless it's spotted..and you don't need a loupe of ANY kind to see spotting).
What happens when you use the BST and send back coin after coin, because it isn't 'pristine' under 40X? Noone on the BST will want to transact with you..... I can foresee the amount of $$ you spend on return shipping is going to be exhorbitant because things don't look 'pristine' under 40X. I can also foresee dealers blackballing you for repeated returns (it can and does happen when one returns too many coins).
Don't take this the wrong way, as I can fully understand you wanting your coins to be as eye-appealing as possible, we all do, but the bottom line is, even coins with a 70 grade CAN and DO have imperfections (I'll agree with you on this.....a graded coin shouldn't have a hair locked into the slab). You are going to have to stop using that 40X magnifier (unless it's for varieties, or doubled/tripled dies, and the like), and begin using a 5X loupe. If professional graders, who can and do make a very good living, use a 5X loupe (or is it 7X.....but certainly nowhere close to a 40X), perhaps you should, also. If they grade a coin a 70 (keep in mind, they spend less than 20 seconds looking at a coin before assigning a grade), and you disagree because you see a 'bright spot on the rim', or other areas of the coin, you are going to lose interest in the hobby right quick. There is no PERFECT grade, just a HIGHEST grade. You will lose interest quickly if you expect a coin to be perfect, or pristine, while continuing to use a 40X magnifier. Put the 40X down, pick a 5X up, and realize there are VERY few, if ANY perfect coins. I believe you use the word 'pristine' in place of 'perfect', and, like it or not, it just ain't gonna happen.
Your way of looking at coins is going to limit you to nothing but Mint products. Hypothetically, say you want a '55 DDO, and your wallet won't allow you to buy an MS70 (noone's wallet would, but, there are also none graded in MS70). Would you/could you settle for an MS65 (not to mention, your wallet will will have nothing but dust bunnies in it)? You'll find PLENTY of imperfections on an MS65, and the '55 DDO is one of the most desired coins out there (you could also use a '16-D Merc, 3 legged Bufalo, etc....) I don't want to see you, or anyone for that matter, get frustrated because a coin doesn't measure up to your expectations, and walk away from the hobby, but I think you need to bring your expectations down a tad.....along with the power of your 'magnifier'.
edited to add...I have to agree with drei3ree and illini...it isn't 'cool' to brag about how much you sold a coin for....unless it's an 1804 dollar.
<< <i>It always bothers me when a seller brags publicly about selling a coin for more than the going rate... >>
I could see how this post may seem like I'm bragging. I'm very bad with wording, what I meant was I'm new to coin collecting and didn't really know what to expect. It completely SHOCKED me the turnaround on how fast a price can change on selling coins. This one was instantly, I've been watching the market on eBay for probably 3 or 4 hours a day making sure it stays the same prices so when I sell coins I don't want to buy the same coin hoping it's in pristine condition I wouldn't incurr a heavy loss. When the coin I wanted to get rid of hit $560.00 while everyone recently ended in around $465.00, I was extremely shocked.
Again sorry, did not mean to brag. Just meant to say that I am shocked that the coin had that fast of a turnaround in pricing. By the way, the other coins I am looking at now for the 2011-S Flag is going for $560.00 to $600.00, it's not that I got lucky. The pricing for it went up suddenly.

I always ask them first before I buy them. If it's a person who only has one set then I just put it back on eBay for sale; if it's a vendor that can exchange I pay for shipping costs. I know, I may be losing money on this venture but to me getting the pristine I'm willing to fork out the extra funds just to get a good pristine coin.

Not sure...I hope so. Everything I've collected (recently switched to coins) I also have been picky. I am surprised that the 70 is said to be theoretical, always thought if someone said it was in perfect condition then it should be in perfect condition.

I actually got lucky on my flag label pristine coins I think. For the flag label 70 set I have, I've only had problems with the S coin and only had to do a swap 3x so far. The seller I'm bidding on right now guarantees me it's in pristine condition and knows exactly what I was talking about or my money back when I asked him. He was that confident he said it was flawless like it should be and deserving of a 70 S grade so I think I definitely found my S pristine coin. I honestly can't wait until this project is over with but I'm not going to short sale myself in "it'll do fine." My next one is collecting something more horrible in quality so I can stop looking on ebay 3 hours to 4 hours a day and the forums at PCGS this frequently. I mean, I have way too many posts for someone who just joined in November 2011 lol.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

What did you collect before recently switching to coins?
<< <i>Hey Absolution.....you wouldn't by chance be related to "realone", would you?
No...why is he/she really picky too?
<< <i>What did you collect before recently switching to coins? >>
Baseball and basketball cards but I wasn't that passionate about them, but I still liked having them. My last project was a set of 1989 baseball cards which I completed. Wasn't really in it for how much they are worth as to just looking at them though. I am and always will be a video game collector, despite the value being nil. Still have pristine unopened original NES games that the boxes aren't bent or grazed. I ended up putting those in a sealed trophy case (yes I know, video games in a trophy case is kind of pathetic but I'm very passionate about them and proud of them
Ummm....sure.....let's go with those words

<< <i>I'm busy looking for a 60x magnifier so that my coins will be even nicer than Absolution's coins.
60X, PLEASE! You can miss all manner of flaws under 60X.
I'm planning a trip to Hopkins to see if I can get an electron microscope tech to check out some of my moderns under the a scanning electron microscope. I'm shotin' for MS71+. Anything else just ain't worth it.

Which electron microscope? I'm going to get the Hubble telescope. If I find a coin that's flawless I will sell it for 1 gazillion million gazillion dollars. Any bidders? lol
