new type of pcgs slab?

LanceNewmanOCCLanceNewmanOCC Posts: 19,999 ✭✭✭✭✭
i was using sample slab to try and figure out which gen the following slab is from but the dot is missing between 2524 65

with no PCGS at the top middle the serrated spacing for the insert, it doesn't seem to match any of the listed slabs, a possible counterfeit have i stumbled upon?

    Possibly a Mis-Printed slab?

I highly doubt that it is a counterfeit slab since the coin looks solid for the printed grade

Looks like a PCGS 2, basically a rattler with a security ring added around it. The missing decimal might be a typo

I suspect it's just a printer error - the strength of the printing is variable from slab to slab.

Maybe there was something in the way - a variety of a struck-through error?? image

It looks like a "PCGS 2.0" label where the period just didn't get printed.

That is the PCGS 2.0 slab. The was the first of the 4 ring around the rattler slabs. The others were the 2.5. 3.0 or doily and the 3.5.

    Here is a 2.5

    A 3.0 or DOILY..........

thank you for all the affirmations

it seemed a 2.0 but without that dot and the serrated edge distance being different than the one shows, thought i was heading for trouble image

If you look at the doilies, there is quite a bit of variation in the labels and the juxtapositioning of the cert number line and bar code line and the white space on the bottom. I believe that PCGS used 4 or so printers around that time. Compare the 2 in my sigline for example.

I think it depended on whether or not they could afford new ink cartridges at the time. image
