Did anyone receive a tablet for Christmas or buy one as a gift?

If you received one, what will you use it for?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

My wife is not sold on them (yet).

She is somewhat "old school" and prefers to read books the old-fashioned way.

Anyone else get or give one for Christmas? Comments?

I bought my wife an iPad 2 for Christmas. She loves it. All the pictures sync from her phone, the music from her iPhone or iPod are recognized immediately...etc. Right now she is sitting on the sofa knitting from a pattern she has on the iPad screen.

It has been our experience they are great for getting data as you sit on the sofa while talking, reading, watching TV, etc. And as with all tablets, you can take your books with you. We read a couple of hundred books a year or more between us, so that is a major deal.

While not cheap, they really are convenient. The laptop doesn't get much use when the school year is not in session (My wife is a college professor).

All things considered, the iPad 2 is a home run in our world. I know others prefer other tablets, and the basic utility is very similar. We are just a MacIntosh / McIntosh home. PM me about the second one and will explain more.... amazing sound.

    I own a Vizio V100B 8" tablet...Android 2.3x OS. 4GB onboard storage plus a 16GB SD card.
It works fine for me. I haven't begun to explore all the free apps much less the paid ones, and at $198 I couldn't pass it by.
I can surf, email, make want lists, check metals prices and more without lugging around my laptop (which still gets used plenty).
One piece of advice though...when not using, turn it off rather than letting it sleep... it still uses batt power in sleep mode. Remember that tip and you won't have power consumption issues. (this thing even has an onboard utility that will tell you what processes are using the most battery power)

Now, I do own an iPhone and someday I'll definitely get a next-gen iPad; Apple makes a great product and I have nothing but good things to say about them.

It's just that the iPad equivalent of this Vizio is 3x the money, so bang for the buck-wise, it's hard to knock it...and I hear you about the vast number of iPad apps vs. android, etc... but frankly- out of half a million apps, how many are you really going to use anyway? 10? 20 maybe? 50 if you're really hardcore?
