1958 Pancho Herrer - (Grade popped today see 1st post)

The grade popped today:
EXCELLENT-MINT 6 1958 TOPPS 433 PANCHO HERRERA HERRER
I thought this had a good chance at a 7, but what do I know as an amateur. Think I should try to re-sub it?

See above! Yes that is the error card and alot of us 58 Collectors need it. But for 2K.............I will just have a empty spot in the registry
same with that modern no name Frank Thomas card....
a true variation is man made.......... ie 1969 Nettles with and w/o extra loop, 1979 Bump Wills, Billy "F%#k Face" Ripken, etc.
one day collectors will know this
better sell it quick
Good luck with the grading...

The Twelve Rarest Post-WWII Baseball Cards ... by Brian Wentz (BMW Sportscards)
Card #3. 1958 Topps #433 Pancho Herrera Error. Until the insert card boom of the 1990s, this card could arguable be considered the rarest among all the regular issue singles that enjoyed nationwide distribution. It is doubtful that Mr. Herrera ever fathomed that his card would be more valuable than any other in the set (in Near Mint condition). A damaged die or blocked printing plate led to the "a" in Herrera being printed either very lightly or not at all on a small number of examples. To date, only five total examples have been graded (incredibly, one is Near Mint to Mint). Although not as widely collected as Hall of Famers Mays, Mantle or Snider, the Herrer(a) [sic] card is almost nonexistent in any condition. link
There's at least one "Herre" too. link
That looks like a PSA 7 to me. Much stronger centering then the two copies posted and fairly strong corners.
Get that baby graded and then sold!
Good luck and great story.

died on April 28th (2005) in Miami, Florida. He was 70.
Born in Cuba, he played for the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro
League before his contract was sold to the Phillies in 1958. He was a
member of the 1952 Monarchs ... considered one of the all-time best
Negro League teams. Some of his teammates were Buck O'Neil, Sherwood
Brewer, Lefty Lamarque and Booker McDaniels.
In three seasons (1958, 1960-61) his career batting line is
31/128/.271.
In 1960, Herrera lost the Rookie of the Year Award to the Los Angeles
Dodgers first baseman ... Frank Howard by 8 votes.
However, Juan Francisco Herrera Willavicencio is best known for
setting (at that time) the National League record for striking 136
times during the 1960 season ... and for appearing on the rarest post
WWII single issue baseball card. The 1958 Topps card #433. Because
of a printing error the "a" at the end of his name was omitted or
blurred (depending upon the card). To many collectors this card is
more valuable than any Mantle, Mays or Williams. Less than ten are
known to exist ... and only one of those has been graded near-mint to
mint in condition.
After the 1962 season ... Herrera was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates
for Don Hoak ... but he never played another major league game. He
lost his job in Philadelphia to Roy Sievers.
WOW! What a card, looks to be a 7.5 or an 8, maybe even an 8.5 on a good day. Either way MAJOR bucks...congrats, and keep us posted about the grading results.
man, you must of been a good boy this year for Santa to deliver that!
T222's PSA 1 or better
Congrats again on the major pull and good luck with the sale!

IMO it has better eye appeal than some 7's or near mint cards.
Outstanding card that should bring '7' money.
I missed the original post, but I gather from some of the comments that this was part of your dad's collection when he was younger. It looks like he took good care of them!
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Also, with such old VCP sales data it's hard to say what current
market value truly is. The current market seems soft for all but
real hard-to-find cards. If it were me I'd list it myself at $7500
BIN and OBO and see what offers come in.
To NET $6k on feebay you will need to sell at around $6600. IMO
that would be the right price.

Also, yes it was from my dad's collection, he had one box to keep when he moved from Texas to Florida... guess he chose the right one.

<< <i>Thanks for the advice. My ebay account has less than 200 feedback with no large sales, probably only a couple of dozen sales. I would think that may cause some concern over potential buyers or would you think not.

I wouldn't worry about a few hundred feedbacks at all. You can also provide
a few bigger ticket references in your listing if you think it is an issue

Earlier, you posted some scans of the Reds and Orioles Team cards - you should check the backs on those.
If they have the checklists in numerical order (instead of alphabetical order), those would be the rarer versions and should get graded too - they might be $100+ cards.
