eBay situation

I have sold an item on the 13th. The buyer has emailed me few times saying he was going to pay and asking more question about the item (even though he should have asked those questions before bidding).
Anyhow, he hasn't paid yet. I am leaving the country Saturday afternoon for 2 weeks.

How should I handle this in order to avoid a neg (for either pissing him off or shipping the items too late)?

If I open a case for unpaid item, am I allowed then to cancel the transaction or if he pays I am supposed to ship?
What if I ask to cancel the transaction because the buyer is unresponsive?

I would file the unpaid claim and in the remarks let them know about the questions after the close and that you will be away for 2 weeks. I would do it immediately so that hopefully the buyer will pay by tomorrow.

If he hasn't paid by now, he's not planning on doing so. Open unpaid item claim, start the ball rolling. Ball may stop rolling by the time you return in two weeks.

Is there anyone you can trust to ship the item while you are away ie: friend or family?
I'm lucky to have a neighbor that sells on eBay and they have handled shipments for
me many times. You might try one of those shipping places like mail boxes etc. Once
you get paid you could contact them with an OK to ship.

From time to time i have carried a few coins that i sold on ebay with me while i was away. If they paid i would find a post office and ship, if not then the coins got a vacation with me.

OP said he was leaving the country for 2 weeks. Not worth the hassles that could come from what may happen sending coins internationally at that point. Also, it would be an extra cost.

The 13th was only 9 days ago. That's not a long time, really. Just be honest with the buyer -- let him know that you're going to be away for a couple of weeks, so if payment is not received by tomorrow (Friday) then you won't be able to ship until such time. If you're willing to be patient with the buyer, chances are he'll be willing to be patient with you as well. However, if you still haven't gotten paid by the time you get back from your trip (and the buyer stops communicating), maybe then I'd consider opening an unpaid item case.

Thank you guys for the advices.
The buyer knows that I am leaving but hasn't replied to my messages in the last few days.
Though, a fellow forum member (great guy indeed) offered me to hold the package and ship it when (if) the buyer pays.

I just had something similar happen with a 25th anniv set I sold. 4 days after hitting buy it now buyer starts asking all sorts of questions and I figure they were wanting out. Check their feedback and see that she purchased and paid for a set that was about $70 less. I open an unpaid item and promptly get a hate mail stating that she is going to purchase my items at the end of the month and not pay so I get stuck having to pay all the ebay fees before they will be refunded. Sure enough the next day a brand new account with the same city/zip makes offers on my items, I reported to ebay and they claim all of her accounts will be suspended.
Point is that it may be easier to just mutually agree to cancel the transaction and not get a stalker.

In the world of ebay 9 days is a long time , too long.Ebay will open an unpaid item after only 4 days now and it used to be 7 i believe. As previously mentioned if theres no payment up to now it's unlikely to be forthcoming.I dont like ebay opening disputes after 4 days and switched that function off , but after 7 days i'd definatley be opening one unless the buyer has corresponded.

I sold an item 3 weeks ago. After about a week I sent an invoice. No communication for 2 more weeks. Then one morning a payment. I shipped that day. No stress, no worry.

Since you are leaving the country I would send the buyer a note that if he pays by XXXX you will ship before you leave, otherwise he will have to wait until you return. He'll make a choice and be happy.
